Harrison County Chamber of Commerce hosts Small Business Entrepreneur Coaching Session

SALEM, (WBOY) — The Harrison County Chamber of Commerce hosted a Small Business Entrepreneur Coaching Session today at Salem University where local people starting up a new business could come in and get some advice from the Small Business Development Center. Business coaches from the development center met one-on-one with small business owners where they bounced ideas around about their plans, marketing ideas and solving issues around the businesses. 'Majority of it has been just business plans – making sure that people are fully prepared for the market that they have ahead,' Coach Todd Crump from the Small Business Development Center said. 'Talked to someone extensively about insurance, making sure that they were prepared and had adequate coverage for the business that they are in.' FSU Honors Program students stuck in London set to return home this week 12 News watched Crump meet with Wild and Free Pet Care – a boarding and daycare center for pets. Owner Tiffany Criss said they've been open for about six months and came to the coaching session to get some ideas for marketing. If you missed Monday's session the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce will also be hosting coaching sessions on May 21 at the Pierpont Community and Technical College Gaston Caperton Center in downtown Clarksburg as well as on July 17 at the Bridgeport Conference Center. The Chamber is also hosting a business pitch competition called 'The Tank' with applications due Aug. 1. Anyone in north central West Virginia is welcome to participate in either activity. Harrison County Chamber and local partners unite for flood relief in southern WV

CLARKSBURG, (WBOY) — The Harrison County Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties, Central Van Lines, and Harry Green Nissan have come together to support those affected by this week's flooding in the southern part of West Virginia. Harry Green Nissan's showroom located just off East Pike Street in Clarksburg will serve as a drop-off site on Thursday and Friday for essential items to assist those impacted by the disastrous flooding in the southern part of the state. Needed items include bottled water, diapers and wipes, baby food, non-perishable food, blankets, cleaning supplies, and clothing. 'I grew up in Gilbert and so just seeing the flooding on Facebook from friends that had posted in the devastation. We just reached out to everybody and like I said all you have to do is ask and within 30 minutes we had all of this organized,' Harrison County Chamber of Commerce Marketing Director Marla Ferree said. 3 confirmed dead in West Virginia flooding Chamber officials noted that the residents of north central West Virginia have a heart of gold when it comes to supporting important causes and giving back. They emphasized that there is no greater cause than helping the southern West Virginia community in its time of need. 'Some of the owners here have some friends obviously that and family down there and we wanna make sure that we can reach out and do whatever we can to help them out, to be able to help with what they got going on currently right now,' the Sales Manager at Harry Green Nissan Rob Insani said. 'So, this is just a great partnership all around, it's a great collaborative agreement between Harry Green Nissan came on board just to be the drop-off center and that's a tremendous help just to have central location, the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce who is really putting everything together, and then Central Van Lines and Storgage, they've been a tremendous help in being able to transport the items,' the Executive Director of Harrison and Doddridge Counties United Way Martin Howe said. On Saturday, the collected donations will be delivered to the Fieldhouse in Williamson for distribution to those in need. Loading will begin at 8 a.m. for anyone who would like to assist. CLARKSBURG, (WBOY) — Following heavy rain and damaging floods in southern West Virginia, some north central West Virginia organizations are working to help. The Harrison County Chamber of Commerce said in a Facebook post that it 'will work alongside our member businesses and local churches and organizations to support flood relief efforts for Southern West Virginia.' Some supplies needed include: Bottled Water Blankets Non-Perishable Food Hygiene Products Clothes School Supplies Medical Supplies If you are interested in donating, call the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce at 304-624-6331. They will direct you to a collection point near you. PHOTOS: Strong winds cause downed trees, damage across West Virginia The Farmington Volunteer Fire Department in Marion County announced in a Facebook post that they will also be accepting donations and supplies, monetary included, in order to help those in need. 'It has come to our attention that Welch, Wv and surrounding areas have been drastically affected by the recent floods,' the department said in its post. 'We are looking to gather supplies to aid them in their time of need.' Governor Morrisey declared a State of Emergency for 13 southern West Virginia counties in response to the floods, urging all West Virginian's to remain alert and follow any instructions given by emergency management officials.
