Reports: Jets sign K Harrison Mevis after UFL stint
June 18 - The New York Jets signed kicker Harrison Mevis, who most recently played for the Birmingham Stallions in the 2025 UFL season, according to ESPN and other reports Tuesday. Mevis, 23, has yet to appear in an NFL game after a successful college career at Missouri. In 2024, he signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent but was waived during training camp. Mevis -- nicknamed "The Thiccer Kicker" for his burly frame -- went 20-for-21 on field goal attempts for Birmingham in the recently completed UFL season. The biggest play of his four-year career at Missouri was a 61-yard game-winning field goal to upset No. 15 Kansas State in 2023. He was a first-team All-American selection in 2021 and went 89-for-106 on field goals and 148-for-149 on extra point attempts in his career. The Jets already have two kickers on their roster ahead of training camp: veteran Anders Carlson and 2025 undrafted free agent Caden Davis. --Field Level Media

Jets sign ‘Thiccer Kicker' Harrison Mevis after impressive UFL stint
The 'Thiccer Kicker' is a New York Jet. The Jets signed former undrafted free agent Harrison Mevis, a 5-foot-11, 243-pound kicker, to their roster on Tuesday, according to multiple reports. Mevis went 20-for-21 for the UFL's Birmingham Stallions last season, his only miss an attempt from 63 yards out. The 23-year-old has yet to see any regular-season NFL reps — he signed with the Panthers in May 2024, but got waived in August and joined the Stallions from there. Getty Images He enjoyed an outstanding career at Missouri, where he was a four-year starter and earned All-American honors after his sophomore year. He made 89 of the 109 field goals he attempted with the Tigers. His 'Thiccer Kicker' nickname was given to him by former Mizzou punter Grant McKinniss. While there, Mevis also kicked the SEC's longest-ever field goal, a 61-yarder that gave Mizzou a buzzer-beating 30-27 win over Kansas State in 2023. The Warsaw, Ind., native put that range on display in Birmingham last season, going 5-for-6 from 50-plus yards with an average of 64.9 yards on kickoff attempts. The move comes shortly after the Jets released veteran kicker Greg Zuerlein, who was with the team from 2022-24. Mevis will battle for playing time with rookie Caden Davis and Anders Carlson, who kicked in five games with the Jets last year. Newly signed Jets kicker Harrison Mevis spent the spring season with the UFL's Birmingham Stallions. Getty Images Mevis will look to continue the recent pipeline of UFL kickers who have built themselves a career in the NFL. The Cowboys' Brandon Aubrey, who also kicked for the Stallions before he was picked up by Dallas, has made the Pro Bowl in his first two NFL seasons. Jake Bates, who was with the UFL's Michigan Panthers before becoming the Lions' starting kicker in 2024, is another example. Mevis will have his first chance to make an impression on the Jets' coaching staff at training camp in July.

Former Mizzou WR Luther Burden III Has Yet to Reveal his Chicago Bears Uniform Number
After being selected by the Bears in the second round of the NFL Draft, former Mizzou wideout Luther Burden III recently took the time to introduce himself to the Chicago faithful. Talking with for a "Fast Facts" series, exploring their new rookies, the No. 39 overall pick revealed his favorite memory during his tenure with the Missouri Tigers; one that Mizzou fans are all too familiar with. Advertisement "Winning on a game-winning field goal against Kansas State [in 2023]," Burden said. "Fans rushed the field, it was pretty cool." The game-winning field goal he referenced was the 61-yard walk-off field goal Harrison Mevis booted on Sep. 16, 2023, to give the unranked Tigers a 30-27 upset-victory against then-No. 15 ranked Kansas stormed the field as the "Thiccer Kicker" set a new SEC record for the longest field goal in conference history. Along with his favorite memory on the field, Burden shared his secret talent of bowling, as well as his love for his two French bulldogs, Ghost and his new puppy, Dream. Advertisement "That's my son," Burden said. "Just seeing [Ghost] grow up, seeing how little he was and how big he is now, is amazing. He's always full of excitement and he loves to play. He's got a great vibe. He's coming to Chicago, and he can't wait. I also have a second puppy now named Dream." Missouri Tigers wide receiver Luther Burden III (3) runs with the ball Jay Biggerstaff-Imagn Images Unlike his French Bulldogs, one thing uncertain to be following Burden to Chicago is his No. 3 jersey number. "Has he discussed what number he will be wearing?" one user asked. "ANNOUNCE HIS NUMBER YOU COWARDS!!!" another user impatiently demanded. Burden wore No. 3 throughout his high school and collegiate careers, but the Bears have retired the number to honor former legend Bronko Nagurski who spent a nine-season stretch with the Bears (1930-37) as a fullback and a defensive tackle. Advertisement Out of respect for the Pro Football Hall of Famer's family, Burden will likely need to choose another number. Wide receivers typically choose a number in the single digits, teens or 80s, but on his new roster, the only available number not in use or retired would be No. 80. However, there is another sleeker, unconventional number that could make more of a statement: 0. If Burden were to pick "0", he would be the first Bears player in history to do so. He will hopefully make his decision soon so Bears fans can get their jersey orders in. Related: Mizzou Football Omitted from Another Post-Spring Ranking
