BID announces funding in Harrogate for Shopsafe's Alert app

Harrogate BID has announced funding for the Alert app from ShopSafe, which will support the Harrogate Pubwatch scheme in the town centre by streamlining communication between venues. Matthew Chapman, chief executive of Harrogate BID, said: "We're thrilled to be working alongside the Pubwatch scheme in our town to continue to improve the initiative for its members." It is hoped that the app will make it easier for venues to report incidents and identify banned individuals, supporting a safer night-time economy. The partnership between Harrogate BID, Pubwatch, and Shopsafe's Alert app was announced officially at a meeting last Thursday (May 29). Details of the Best Bar None scheme in Harrogate were also revealed during that meeting. The scheme is designed to help customers to identify well-run night-time economy venues, which have received a mark of accreditation from the scheme. Venues wishing to join the Pubwatch scheme in Harrogate, or to learn more, are invited to email email info@

Thousands flock to Harrogate town centre for 2025 Dog Show

Thousands of people flocked to Harrogate town centre for the Dog Show over the weekend. The event, organised by Harrogate BID, took place on the Piazza area of the Victoria Shopping Centre on Saturday (April 12). Figures calculated at the Victoria Shopping Centre show that more than 15,000 passed through the centre and the Harrogate Dog Show on the day, with the peak footfall recorded between 12pm and 4pm, according to a spokesperson. The total footfall in the BID area on the day of the Dog Show was just over 48,000 - a 36 per cent increase on the footfall during the 2024 Harrogate Dog Show. The Yorkshire Shepherdess, Amanda Owen, was in attendance to judge all of the categories and classes throughout the day. Greater Swiss Mountain Dog 'Sully' took home the Best in Show prize. Other categories saw dogs and their owners showing off their best tricks and their best puppy dog eyes, and Amanda even selected the dog she would most like to take back to Ravenseat Farm with her and her family. Matthew Chapman, Harrogate BID's chief executive, said: "We were absolutely delighted to deliver another hugely successful Harrogate Dog Show – and we brought in our biggest crowds yet! "The weather really was on our side with a full day of sunshine, which helped to make the show all the more enjoyable for local businesses, residents, and visitors to our town! "The Dog Show is growing year on year and we're always planning an even bigger and better event for 2026, so watch this space. "I'd like to thank everyone that supported us at the BID in bringing this event to life. "It's one of out most popular in what is always a very busy year – and we're already excited to bring even more excitement to our town centre." For the first time, the Harrogate Dog Show included a pet-themed market held along Cambridge Street. Traders sold pet essentials, organic products, animal treats, and branded merchandise, and there were also crafting stalls. Roaming street performers provided entertainment across the day, with the 'Dog Wardens' ranking and grading all of the owners and their furry friends that took part in the show. The BID team is now looking forward to delivering the Harrogate Celebration of Fashion event on the Piazza on Saturday, May 17 - with further details set to be released over the coming days. If you have any feedback to offer on the 2025 Harrogate Dog Show, or have any questions surrounding the event or the work the BID does in Harrogate, please email the team on info@ More information is available at
