Thane athlete wins national gold medal in 100m sprint
Navi Mumbai: Thane sprinter Harsh Raut, a senior practitioner at the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC)-run athletics academy, emerged as the fastest runner in the men's 100 metres at the recently held Indian Open Athletics Meet-2025 at Savitribai Phule University, Pune, reports B B Nayak.
He clocked 10.38 seconds to bag the gold medal while establishing his personal best timing. At age 20 years, 3 months, and 26 days, Harsh has become the youngest Indian athlete to achieve the below 10.40 seconds barrier.
He currently ranks 13th in India's all-time 100-metre rankings and features among the top 10 active Indian athletes. Additionally, he holds the third position in state's all-time 100-metre rankings. "I have been practising for years. I did exactly what my coach asked me to. I will work harder to improve my timing," said Harsh. His coach, Nilesh Patkar, stated, "It's a proud moment for us all. Harsh became my first athlete to run below 10.4 seconds.
