STORY: :: Rescue teams in Uttarakhand state search for missing people, including soldiers and laborers :: Dharali, India :: August 9, 2025 :: Harsil, India :: Flash floods, triggered by a cloudburst, hit Dharali and Harsil villages on Tuesday, killing at least four people Dharali, a hamlet of about 200 people that stands more than 1,150 m (3,775 ft) above sea level, is a pit-stop for Hindu pilgrims climbing to the temple town of Gangotri. Uttarakhand is prone to floods and landslides, which some experts blame on climate change.

Deadly Cloudburst in India Sweeps Away Village in Flash Flood
The Indian Himalayan state of Uttarakhand is bracing for more heavy rain, after flash floods on Tuesday washed away an entire village and killed at least four people in the region. 'A massive mudslide struck Dharali village in the KheerGad area near Harsil, triggering sudden flow of debris and water through the settlement,' the Indian Army said in a post on X. Troops were immediately mobilized and have reached the site to undertake rescue operations, it said.

Rudraksh Singh Khaidem (46kg) showed technical superiority on his way to a flawless 3-0 win over Kyrgyzstan's Aidar Musaev as all six Indians in action on Wednesday advanced to the semifinals of the Asian U-15 & U-17 Boxing Championships. In the men's U-15 category, Harsil (37kg) and Sanchit Jayani (49kg) secured commanding 5-0 victories, while Sanskar Vinod Atram (35kg) posted a solid 4-1 win. Prikshit Balahra (40kg) eked out a hard-fought 3-2 win over Mongolia's Akhmyetkhan Nursalyem. In the women's U-15 section, Milky Meinam (43kg) dominated Yeldana Abdigani of Kazakhstan with a 5-0 verdict.
