Authorities emphasized that investigations are ongoing to uncover the module's forward and backward linkages, aiming to dismantle the network completely. Confrontation During Follow-Up Operation The operation took a tense turn during a follow-up recovery attempt involving one of the accused, Sonu alias Kali. According to AIG Counter Intelligence, Jalandhar, Navjot Mahal, the suspect tried to open fire on the police party. In response, the officers retaliated in self-defense, resulting in a bullet injury to Sonu. 'The injured accused was immediately shifted to the Civil Hospital in SBS Nagar, where he is currently undergoing treatment,' reported Mahal. The quick medical intervention ensured that Sonu received adequate care following the incident. Charges Filed Under Multiple Legal Provisions The police have registered an FIR against the accused under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including: Section 109 Section 324(5) Section 61(2) Additionally, sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act have also been invoked, marking the severity of the case. The FIR highlights the grave charges against the suspects and the nature of their alleged activities. In a post on X, DGP Gaurav Yadav said that acting on precise intelligence, AGTF teams, along with Tarn Taran Police, launched a swift operation that led to the seizure of the IED before it could reach Rinda's associates in Punjab and wreak havoc. The bomb was discovered in Tarn Taran district, a region known for terror infiltration threats. Yadav said that the IED was safely moved and neutralised by a bomb disposal squad in a controlled explosion. Officials said the IED was powerful enough to cause mass casualties, had it not been intercepted in time. A case has been filed under the Explosives Act at Sirhali Police Station.

The accused has been identified as a resident of Miyawali village and is currently in the custody of the Police Station Khemkaran. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to uncover his suspected links with illegal cross-border activities and determine the motive behind possessing the firearm. This significant apprehension with weapon demonstrates the professional competence and unflinching dedication of the BSF troops and Punjab Police who are committed to securing the nation's border as well as foil terror activities in the hinterland. In a separate intelligence-driven operation earlier this week, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab has successfully stopped a major terror plot by Harwinder Rinda, a Pakistan-based Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative supported by Pakistan's ISI. Using important information, the AGTF team found and took away weapons from a forest in Gurdaspur. They recovered two AK-47 rifles with 16 bullets, two magazines, and two hand grenades before these weapons could reach Harwinder Rinda's helpers. In a post on X, DGP Punjab Police said, 'In an intelligence-led operation, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (#AGTF) Punjab successfully foiled a major terror plot orchestrated by Harwinder Rinda, a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative based in #Pakistan and backed by Pakistan's ISI. Acting swiftly on human intelligence, AGTF teams traced and recovered a large cache of terrorist hardware, including two AK-47 rifles with 16 live cartridges, two magazines, and two P-86 hand grenades from a forest area in #Gurdaspur, before it could reach Harwinder @ Rinda's associates.' The first investigation shows that these weapons were sent into India by Pakistani groups and Harwinder Rinda to carry out attacks in different places in Punjab. Their goal was to disturb peace in the state. A police case has been registered under the Explosives Act and the Arms Act at the Purana Shala police station in Gurdaspur. 'Preliminary investigation reveals, the recovered consignment was pushed into India by Pakistani agencies and Harwinder @ Rinda as part of a premeditated plan to carry out attacks at multiple locations in Punjab, aiming to disrupt public peace. An FIR under the Explosives Act and the Arms Act has been registered at PS Purana Shala, Gurdaspur,' the post reads. Punjab Police's anti-gangster task force (AGTF) foiled a terror plot backed by Pakistan's ISI and orchestrated by Harwinder Rinda, a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative based in Pakistan, with the recovery of a large cache of arms from a forest area in Gurdaspur, said director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday. The recovered cache of arms included two AK-47 rifles, 16 live cartridges, two magazines, and two P-86 hand grenades. Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the recovered consignment was pushed into India by Pakistani agencies and Harwinder Rinda as part of a premeditated plan to carry out attacks at multiple locations in Punjab, aiming to disrupt peace. Acting on human intelligence, AGTF teams under the supervision of additional director general of police (AGTF) Promod Ban traced the arms consignment from a forest area in Gurdaspur, before it could reach to the operatives of Rinda, said the DGP, adding that further investigations are on to identify the operatives, who were supposed to retrieve the consignment. Sharing more details, deputy inspector general of police (AGTF) Gurmeet Chauhan said the probe has also revealed the involvement of foreign-based terrorists in this Pak-ISI backed module. Recoveries of more arms consignments are likely in coming days, he added. He said an FIR under relevant sections of the Explosives Act and the Arms Act has been registered at Purana Shala police station in Gurdaspur.
