Car ends up in sewage pond in Likas

Kota Kinabalu: A mother and her son escaped unhurt after their car crashed into a sewage treatment pond along Jalan Loji, Taman Kingfisher, Friday morning. The 8.30am incident involved a Perodua Viva. According to the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, both the 79-year-old woman and her 49-year-old son were trapped inside but rescued by passers-by before firemen arrived. 'The senior citizen managed to exit the vehicle through the rear door, holding onto a wooden stick extended by members of the public. 'The driver escaped through the driver's side window in a similar manner. 'Among those who helped was an off-duty firefighter, PBK I Hasrulnizam Md Zain, who happened to be passing by,' said Lintas Fire and Rescue Station Chief Agustavia Joe Guasi. A 10-member team from the Lintas Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene within minutes. The operation concluded at 8.54am after ensuring the site was safe.
