Iraq and Oman Airports partner on Karbala Airport Project
Baghdad ( – Oman Airports Company has entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with Iraq's Teebat Karbala Company to support the preparation and initial operation of Karbala International Airport — one of Iraq's most significant air transport projects.
The agreement was signed by Hassan Rashid Jawad Al Abayji, Chairman of Teebat Karbala Company, and Saeed bin Hamood Al Mawali, Oman's Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and Chairman of the Board of Oman Airports.
This partnership is part of broader efforts between Iraq and Oman to strengthen civil aviation infrastructure in Iraq and modernize its airports in line with international standards.
Under the agreement, a team of Omani technical, administrative, and operational experts will be stationed in Karbala for 15 months. Their responsibilities will include overseeing the airport's initial operations, training local staff to global standards, and ensuring smooth and efficient operations during the critical first phase.
Karbala International Airport aims to handle two million passengers in its initial phase, with capacity expected to increase to six million in the second stage and eventually reach 20 million passengers upon full completion.
