DAPHNE, Ala. (WKRG) — A New Jersey woman accused of leaving her children in a Daphne hotel room while she went to Atlanta for the weekend has been arrested, according to police.

Hassanah Jabriah Smith, 33, allegedly left her two children, 5 and 15, in the room by themselves, has learned.
The 5-year-old, reportedly non-verbal and autistic, got out of the room and jumped into the hotel pool, but doesn't know how to swim.
Daphne Police and the Department of Human Resources provided the kids with food for the weekend, according to officials.
Smith was arrested and charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. She is being held in the Daphne City Jail on a total $2,000 bond.
According to officials, Smith and her boyfriend have been living at the hotel since the last week of July. The boyfriend is a truck driver, and his company paid for the room.
Smith reportedly told police several different stories, but said there was a health emergency at an Atlanta hospital and she didn't want to expose the 5-year-old to what was going on.
