Blue-chip CB names Texas in top five schools
Blue-chip CB names Texas in top five schools Texas has eight commitments in its 2026 recruiting class. They have one cornerback in four-star Hayward Howard Jr. who committed earlier this month. The Longhorns are also heavily in play for another cornerback in four-star Justice Fitzpatrick as he named them in his top five schools this week. Fitzpatrick plays at powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and has 43 total offers. He's the nation's No. 62 overall player and the No. 7 cornerback per On3's industry rankings. They have him as the No. 11 prospect in the state of Florida as well. It was a very productive junior campaign for Fitzpatrick in 2024. He racked up 34 tackles, two interceptions, and seven pass breakups as he aided St. Thomas Aquinas when the Florida 5A state championship. He also received Junior All-American honors from MaxPreps. Fitzpatrick hasn't spent a lot time in Austin with just an unofficial visit taken this April. However, he has an official visit locked in for June 13, which gives the Longhorns and opportunity to separate themselves from the pack. LSU football extends offer to 2026 in-state defensive back LSU football made an offer to 2026 cornerback Hayward Howard Jr., according to an social media post from the prospect on Tuesday. According to On3's Industry Rankings, Howard ranks No. 32 at his position and No. 11 in the state of Louisiana. Hailing from New Orleans, Howard plays high school football at Edna Karr High School, just like multiple Tigers before him. 2025 signee and four-star prospect TeRon Francis and veteran wide receiver Aaron Anderson also went through Edna Karr. 2026 commitments Aiden Hall and Richard Anderson play alongside Howard at the school, helping the team win the state championship last year. Howard holds offers from plenty of Power Four schools, including Ole Miss, Florida, Texas A&M, Auburn and Texas. Should he join the Tigers, he would bolster the nation's top 2026 class while representing his home state. LSU football's 2026 recruiting class currently ranks No. 1 in the country, according to On3. The Tigers have nine total commits, including seven four-stars and one five-star. Howard is the type of talented Louisiana defensive back that LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond has made a career out of recruiting.

Florida State among 2026 CB's top five schools
Florida State among 2026 CB's top five schools Defensive back Hayward Howard Jr. is seeing his recruitment take off and the Florida State Seminoles are one of the teams leading the charge. They offered him a scholarship on Jan. 16 and he quickly made his way to Tallahassee, to attend their Junior Day last weekend. It is safe to say that it made quite an impression on the New Orleans, Louisiana native. He discussed his recruitment with Chris Nee of Noles247 and admitted they are one of his top schools. "I haven't made a top five or anything like that yet, but they will definitely be in my top five," Howard said. Howard, who is currently unranked in the 247Sports composite rankings, has received six scholarship offers in January alone. The Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes, Louisville Cardinals, and SMU Mustangs are some of the Power Four schools that have also entered the race for the 6-foot-2, 170-pounder. While he just started talking with FSU defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr., the two have quickly formed a connection. "I just met him like two weeks ago and I feel like I've been knowing him for three years," Howard said. "We have a great relationship. Great guy. He will tell you the truth. This won't be Howard's last trip to Tallahassee as he told Nee that he will return to watch a practice this spring and again in June for an official visit. FSU has two safeties committed in its 2026 recruiting class but is still looking for its first commitment at cornerback. Howard has the versatility to do both at the next level and FSU will need to keep working to land him.
