The Role of HACCP Consultants in Meeting Qatar's Food Safety Regulations
Food safety is a top priority in Qatar's fast-growing food industry. As international trade, tourism, and local demand increase, the Qatari government has introduced strict food safety rules to protect public health. One of the most trusted global systems for ensuring food safety is HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points). To set up and maintain this system successfully, many businesses in Qatar turn to experienced HACCP consultants. Understanding HACCP and Its Importance HACCP is a proactive food safety system based on science. It works by identifying and controlling potential hazards throughout the food supply chain. Instead of checking food safety only at the final stage, HACCP focuses on each step—from sourcing raw materials to processing and distribution. In Qatar, following HACCP is often required by law for getting business licenses, meeting export standards, and passing public health checks. Why HACCP Consultants Are Essential Setting up a HACCP system takes a strong understanding of food safety laws, risk management, and industry-specific risks. HACCP consultants in Qatar are essential partners in this process. They offer services like: Gap Analysis : Reviewing current practices to find areas for improvement. : Reviewing current practices to find areas for improvement. Plan Development : Designing custom HACCP plans that meet global standards and local laws. : Designing custom HACCP plans that meet global standards and local laws. Staff Training : Teaching teams about food hygiene, hazard control, and record-keeping. : Teaching teams about food hygiene, hazard control, and record-keeping. Audit Preparation : Helping businesses get ready for inspections by health authorities. : Helping businesses get ready for inspections by health authorities. Ongoing Support: Guiding regular updates and improvements to stay compliant. Aligning with Qatari Food Safety Laws Qatar's Law No. 8 of 1990 and recent Ministry of Public Health updates highlight the need for strong food safety practices. Businesses must keep clear records, check for risks often, and take corrective steps when needed. Failing to meet these rules can lead to fines, license suspension, or even shutdowns. HACCP consultants help businesses stay compliant and build a culture of safety. They understand how to meet legal requirements while adapting food safety plans for different types of businesses—like restaurants, catering services, food manufacturers, and suppliers. Conclusion In Qatar's tightly regulated food industry, HACCP consultants act as trusted guides between companies and government rules. Their skills help businesses build reliable food safety systems, lower risks, and earn customer trust. For any food business looking to succeed in Qatar, working with a qualified HACCP Consultant in Qatar is not just helpful—it's a smart and necessary move. TIME BUSINESS NEWS

CHICAGO, May 20, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), a nonprofit scientific organization committed to advancing the science of food and its application across the global food system, will address the most challenging food safety issues – from food additives and GRAS to recalls and regulatory changes – at IFT FIRST: Annual Event and Expo, the annual food research, science, and technology event that is being held July 13-16, 2025, at McCormick Place in Chicago. A keynote on "Food Additives: Reformulation and Regulatory Challenges" will share the latest perspectives on clean label and natural alternatives and the growing pressure for food and beverage manufacturers to reformulate products and replace synthetic additives, including colors, preservatives, and other functional ingredients. Featuring five top experts across legal, regulatory, and consumer advocacy, this keynote will discuss the complexities of replacing synthetic additives – including costs, technical hurdles, scalability challenges and what it will take for food companies to stay afloat in a rapidly changing food market. Other key sessions at IFT FIRST will focus on GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) regulations and the introduction of new food ingredients as well as navigating the FDA's new era of food safety. Meanwhile, a variety of scientific panels will address the role technology must play to enhance food safety, the food safety challenges having the biggest impact on public health, why food recalls are still so common, how international regulatory frameworks are impacting new food products, as well as addressing consumer confidence in food safety. In addition, a pre-event workshop on "NextGen Food Safety: Bridging Farm to Table with Smart Tech Solutions" is being hosted by IFT's Food Microbiology Division on July 12-13 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. CDT. Designed for agri-food professionals, the training will cover Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), Good Agricultural Practices (GA), and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), among other topics. "Consumer expectations around food safety, transparency, and ingredient integrity are evolving, and the food system must rise to meet that demand," said IFT CEO Christie Tarantino-Dean. "At IFT FIRST, we bring together experts from across academia, industry, and government to tackle complex challenges head-on—and ensure that we're not just keeping up with change but driving it." Urine, raw chicken and congealed grease: Limerick takeaway shut down by food safety inspector
The closure comes after inspectors cited major concerns about cleanliness and food safety. Upon inspection of Tasty at The Square, Dromcollogher, the inspector found food-related operations were being conducted in an outdoor alleyway exposed to foul sewer water. According to the FSAI report, inside the kitchen, inspectors found heavily stained floors, mouldy walls, grease-covered surfaces, and an accumulation of food debris. One of the fridges was 'cracked and damaged.' The internal seal was 'shrivelled and caked with food debris; there was grated cheese, burgers and burger sauce stored in this fridge.' A knife container was found with 'decaying brown liquid and food debris inside.' A toilet cubicle under the stairs opens 'directly to the kitchen. There was a strong smell of urine.' The light switch for the toilet was also 'stained and unclean.' The report further revealed that the business failed to follow basic food safety procedures. There was no visible use of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points). This is a legal requirement for all food businesses. 'Raw chicken is defrosted, marinated with potato starch, cooked, cooled and reheated,' the report continued. The inspector noted: 'I asked what the sieves with food debris were used for. The [business operator] indicated the cleaning of the drain, to demonstrate he put on rubber gloves; lifted the man hole and scooped out congealed white fat oil and grease from the waste water drain and emptied this into a bucket.' "The [operator] then went to enter the kitchen. I asked him to stop pointing out his contaminated rubber gloves, however he said that he used the gloves for the grease trap in the centre of the kitchen. 'He then entered the food kitchen without changing the soiled gloves or washing his hands.' The inspector wrote: 'the main kitchen presents a serious risk of contamination to the interior of the food premises.' The closure will remain in place until the business shows full compliance with food safety laws.
