KUALA TERENGGANU: Three local authority officers in Terengganu have been remanded for six days over allegations of accepting bribes totalling RM25,000 to facilitate building plan approvals. The remand order, issued by Magistrate Yuhanis Mohd Roslan, follows an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). The suspects, two men and one woman aged between 40 and 50, were detained yesterday afternoon after giving statements at the Terengganu MACC office. A source revealed that the alleged offences occurred between 2015 and 2019, with bribes transferred into their personal bank accounts. 'Initial investigations found that the three suspects allegedly committed the offences between 2015 and 2019. They are believed to have received bribes amounting to about RM25,000 through separate fund transfers into their respective personal bank accounts,' the source said. The bribes were linked to 14 projects. The arrests follow a separate case in January involving a government agency director detained over a RM900,000 bribery scandal. Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid confirmed the latest arrests, stating the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. KUALA TERENGGANU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested three local authority staff in Terengganu for allegedly accepting bribes amounting to RM25,000 in exchange for facilitating building plan approvals. The suspects, comprising two men and a woman in their 40s and 50s, were detained at 2.30pm yesterday when they turned up at the Terengganu MACC office to have their statements recorded. Magistrate Yuhanis Mohd Roslan granted a six-day remand order after the MACC filed an application at the Kuala Terengganu magistrate's court this morning. A source said the trio are believed to have committed the offences between 2015 and 2019. "They are suspected of receiving various sums totalling RM25,000, channelled into their personal bank accounts via fund transfers from a private company," the source said. The arrests were made following the detention of a government agency director in January over a separate RM900,000 graft case. Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. He said more arrests may follow as investigations progress.

A source said on Monday (July 28) that the suspects, two men and a woman aged between 40 and 50, were detained at 2.30pm on Sunday (July 27) when they turned up to give their statements at the Terengganu MACC office. "Initial investigations found that the three suspects allegedly committed the offences between 2015 and 2019. "They are believed to have received bribes amounting to about RM25,000 through separate fund transfers into their respective personal bank accounts,' the source said, adding that the alleged bribes involved 14 projects. The source also said the arrests followed the detention of a government agency director in January over a bribery case involving some RM900,000. State MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid confirmed the arrests when contacted, saying the case was being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. He did not rule out the possibility of further arrests to assist in the investigation. – Bernama

Magistrate Iffah Nabihah Mohd Ishak issued a five-day remand order until Friday. A source said the male suspect, in his 50s, was detained around 2pm yesterday when he came to the MACC office in Terengganu to give a statement. "Initial investigations suggest that the suspect may have been involved in misconduct between 2019 and 2023, including altering land plans and managing several land-related processes in the state for the benefit of his children. "Following his arrest, MACC seized two plots of land located in a district in Terengganu, measuring 9,000 and 6,000 square feet respectively, as part of the investigation," the source said. Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid confirmed the arrest when contacted. The case is being investigated under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009.
