NHS Wales app launched to improve health care access
The Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing Sarah Murphy said the relaunch of this bilingual app represents a significant step forward in the digital transformation of healthcare services. The app, having earlier been made available for beta testing, is now being promoted for nationwide use. Ms Murphy announced the relaunch at Wales' inaugural NHS Digital Summit, while outlining a 12-month roadmap for the app's future offerings. The app includes features such as allowing people to track their position on NHS waiting lists, view hospital appointments, and access a range of tools designed to assist in managing health while awaiting surgery. Ms Murphy said: "Our vision for the NHS Wales app extends far beyond today's relaunch. "In the coming months, people will be able to track their treatment waiting times and manage hospital appointments, all from their phone or device." The Minister applauded this as "just the beginning of our digital transformation," with aspirations of creating a digital entry point to NHS and social care services. Alongside the relaunch of the app, a new Welsh Identity Verification Service is also being introduced. The service allows GPs to verify the identities of people without government-issued photo ID, who wish to register for the app. People with government-issued photo ID can continue to use the online NHS login service to register. The Minister also used her platform at the Digital Summit to appeal for better cooperation across all aspects of the NHS, the Welsh Government, and Digital Health and Care Wales. She said: "This summit is a reset button and an opportunity to reaffirm relationships and to commit to working more collaboratively across the system to provide the best service for the people of Wales."

Didcot Power Station probe reaching 'latter stages', police say
The investigation into the deaths of four men following the collapse at Didcot Power Station is moving "towards the latter stages", police have 23 February 2016 part of the old boiler house at the Didcot A plant collapsed, killing Ken Cresswell, John Shaw, Michael Collings and Christopher News editor Mark Anthony said it was "a national disgrace" that nine years on their families were still waiting for Valley Police said its joined investigation with the Health and Safety Executive "continues to make meaningful progress". The force said it was "actively investigating" offences of corporate manslaughter, gross negligence manslaughter and Health and Safety at Work Act offences. It took more than six months for the men's bodies to be recovered and family members of the victims previously said they were finding waiting for the investigation to conclude "really hard".Last year, Mr Anthony started a petition calling for a pubic enquiry into the time it has taken."Unfortunately, it is not without precedent," he said, comparing it to the investigations into Hillsborough and Grenfell. "There's been no pressure from The Home Office or the Home Secretary to make the police at Thames Valley... get everything resolved any quicker." "To date, the investigation team has collated and analysed over 6,500 exhibits, 90,000 images, and 230,000 digital media artefacts," Deputy Chief Constable Ben Snuggs said."Over 180 hours of video recorded witness and suspect interviews have been conducted, in addition to the 2,812 statements taken."He said while "a specific timeframe" for its conclusion could not be specified, they were "confident that we are moving towards the latter stages" of enquiries."Our officers continue to provide regular updates to the families on the investigation progress, as well as to the Crown Prosecution Service." Mr Anthony said: "The entire demolition world is looking to the UK, Thames Valley Police and the Health and Safety Executive for some answers, so that they can send in men and women to work safely."And nine years later, we still can't do that."Olly Glover, the newly elected MP for Didcot and Wantage, said he was "putting pressure" on the police to make progress."But also the investigation does need to be allowed to conclude in a way that gets all of the evidence to the surface," he owner RWE Power said "Our thoughts remain with the families of the four men who died in this tragic incident. "We continue to cooperate fully with Thames Valley Police."The Home Office said it would not comment while the investigation was ongoing. A total of 92 Health Promotion professionals from 27 districts and MoH headquarters have been trained on emergencies preparedness and response. The training was a result of findings from support visits to 12 districts to assess Risk Communication&Community Engagement (RCCE) capacity and experiences during and after COVID-19. The training focused on preparedness, response and resilience particularly building the capacity of the community to anticipate, respond and build resilience for future shocks. The training was also used to strengthen and validate the draft RCCE Strategic plan and Standard Operating Procedures. Participants were also trained in social listening and infodemic management. This was done in collaboration with UNICEF. For community engagement and resilience, fifty representatives of communities, faith-based organizations and traditional healers were oriented on their role in promoting health and well-being, especially during emergencies. The country was also supported to build Psycho-social support capacity. In this regard, forty-four (44) mental health and allied health professionals were trained in Psychological First AID (PFA), and standard operating procedures were developed. The draft Psychological First Aid SOPs were updated and used to orient and capacitate participants particularly for emergencies. Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Officers from different sectors were also orientated on their role in promoting health and wellbeing particularly during emergencies. The orientation included leveraging lessons from COVID-19 and integration of Psycho-social support in workplace programmes and services.
