Locals 'should not be put out' by Oasis gigs

Locals should not be "put out" when Oasis play a series of gigs in Manchester, a council leader has said The band are playing five huge concerts at Heaton Park in July, with some people living nearby saying they are "apprehensive" over the disruption. Residents in Prestwich told BBC Radio Manchester during previous events they had experienced gridlock on the roads, litter on the street and fans urinating in City Council leader Bev Craig said nearby restaurants would receive a boost in trade and a community impact fund would "benefit local people". Liam and Noel Gallagher are reuniting for the 2025 tour, which includes five sold out gigs in the grounds of the council-owned Heaton Park on 11, 12, 16, 19 and 20 July. Manchester City Council said the shows, alongside the annual Parklife Festival in June and other performances, would bring in £375,000 in profit for the year 2025-26.A community impact fund, which was set up for Parklife in 2024, generated £45,000 for community groups based around Heaton said: "The key thing for us is making sure that no resident is put out by what should be an iconic time for the city to celebrate". Robert Younge, 73, has lived on Bury Old Road, opposite Heaton Park, for 40 said revellers in the past had not been respectful of neighbours. "They're wrecking the area," he said. "I've caught them climbing over the wall and relieving themselves - but what can you say to kids who've got no manners." About 80,000 Oasis fans will be at Heaton Park each night for five concerts in Bury Old Road in Prestwich, there are pubs, restaurants and takeaways which have said they will benefit from an influx of tens of thousands of music fans. Jade Field, 33, manager of Armstrongs Fish and Chip shop, said: "It's pretty fun to watch them going to the concerts and having a nice time in their crazy outfits. "We prepare by doubling-up on all our orders, including chips and sausages. The queues are always out the door". Nissen Lewis, 38, who opened Benny's Bistro more than two years ago, said he was also expecting to benefit from the crowds and would also be stocking up with more supplies."Thousands of people will be walking past. We provide American-style food like burgers, chicken wings and messy fries," he said. "The footfall is crazy, so I'll have to prepare for the Oasis gigs and order extra food". Emily Foort moved into her house on Bury Old Road earlier this year. She said: "We have been warned that the streets get trashed. We are quite nervous and apprehensive - but we have got tickets for one of the Oasis concerts."Trams in Manchester city centre will face disruption during the gigs. No services will run from Piccadilly Gardens to Piccadilly Station as the Metrolink network is having a £150m upgrade, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) said on Thursday. Oasis fans express frustration at ballot for front-standing tickets at Manchester shows

Oasis fans attending the band's homecoming shows in Manchester have expressed anger that they have to enter a ballot to determine their proximity to the stage at Heaton Park. Ticketmaster emailed ticket holders passing on information from the event organisers, saying that a safety advisory group had divided the all-standing concert into general admission and front standing, with distinct tickets, to 'ensure fan safety and improve the fan experience while entering the site'. Fans seeking a spot at the front must opt in to the ballot by noon today. Ticketmaster said that – in the highly likely event – that opt-in requests outnumber availability, tickets will be allocated at random. Opting in applies to entire ticket orders, not individual tickets within a single order. Posting on X, many fans were irritated by the news, which comes just shy of a month before the tour begins in Cardiff on 4 July. The five concerts in Manchester will be between 11 and 20 July. VIP ticket holders also sought information on whether they would automatically be allocated a place in the front section. The Guardian has contacted representatives for Oasis for comment. Accused by one fan this week of reuniting just for money, Liam Gallagher replied: 'It's for many reasons money way down the list'. Oasis also appear to have disappointed erstwhile drummer Zak Starkey, recently let go twice by the Who, who told BBC Breakfast he was 'gutted' that the band had chosen Joey Waronker – who performed on last year's collaborative album by Liam Gallagher and John Squire – for the tour. The rest of the lineup is yet to be officially announced. British economists, meanwhile, are unlikely to complain about the looming tour, the band's first dates since splitting 16 years ago. Fans are expected to spend more than £1bn on tickets, accommodation, food, drink, outfits and merchandise, with the gigs expected to be the most popular and profitable in British history. Wonderwallets, part of the Barclays Consumer Spend report, estimated that the 1.4 million fans attending the show would spend more than £766 per person, generating £1.06bn. The sums exceed Barclays' estimate for Taylor Swift's Eras tour last year – which came in at £997m – but Oasis are playing two more shows than Swift did.

Liam Gallagher shares rare beaming selfie as he enjoys a spot of sunbathing at his south of France villa ahead of Oasis reunion world tour

Liam Gallagher shared a rare beaming selfie on his Instagram page on Saturday while enjoying some time at his villa in the south of France. The Oasis singer, 52, posed with a pair of dark shades on as he smiled for the camera, simply captioning: 'LOLS.' The rock legend couldn't look any more carefree as he relaxed in the lavish property, before the long-waited world tour is set to kick off on July 4 with his brother Noel, 57. Oasis sensationally split in 2009 after a backstage bust-up - devastating their loyal fan base. In the 14 years that have followed, a feud and bitter fighting has ensued with the brothers trading insults back and forth in interviews and social media. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. But this year, the pair are reuniting for a huge world tour, and have dates booked across the UK, America, South America and Asia in 2025. Despite the highly-anticipated reunion, it appears the Liam and Noel haven't put all of their differences behind them. A source, who has a guest list ticket for one of the shows in Heaton Park, claimed they will be spending time separately following the shows. They told The Sun: 'You might be seeing Oasis on stage but you will not be seeing Liam and Noel together afterwards. 'Each of them had a VIP list where their friends and famous fans could buy their tickets. 'But depending on which brother you got your ticket off, it's their green room and after-party you're invited to. 'It's gutting for people who want to hang out with both of them but it seems they're keeping it all at a distance.' Despite the separate parties, the duo seem to be working well together, with Liam telling his fans he's loved working with Noel again. And Noel feels the same, saying of his sibling: 'He's alright, he's on tip-top form.' MailOnline has contacted Oasis' representatives for comment. The Oasis Live 25 tour kicks off on 4 July at Cardiff's Principality Stadium before playing sell-out gigs at Manchester's Heaton Park, Wembley Stadium in London, and Edinburgh's Murrayfield stadium. The Brit pop band will then head over to America, South America and Asia in 2025.
