Coronation Street legend Helen Worth makes rare public appearance at West End event

CORONATION Street icon Helen Worth made a rare public appearance opposite a Broadway legend. Helen, who rose to fame playing Gail Platt on Coronation Street, stepped out in London to support West End legend Dame Elaine Page and Broadway star Bernadette Peters. 4 4 4 The two musical theatre icons hosted the West End Woofs show at St Paul's Church in Covent Garden. The event sees Elaine and Bernadette come together in the massive list cat and dog adoption event. The stars bring together the best of West End talent and their four-legged friends to work with animal shelters and rescue groups to benefit their important work. Elaine shared a series of photos showing her famous friends, including Corrie's Helen, speaking outside the church in support of the fundraising event. "Thank you to all who came today," she captioned the post. The powerhouse divas first hosted the event in a virtual setting in 2020, before hosting their first live event in 2023. It was a rare public appearance for Helen who confirmed last year she would be leaving the ITV soap for good after 50 years on the cobbles. Helen filmed her final scenes late last year, as her character Gail bid farewell to her friends and family for a new life in the South of France after tying the knot with new husband Jesse Chadwick. It was an emotional exit for Gail whose final episode aired on Christmas Day with many stand-out moments. Her on-screen daughter Sarah, told her: 'I know you're the backbone. Gail Platt leaves Coronation Street for a new life in France after 50 years on the cobbless 'I know there's lots you don't tell me because you want to protect me. Don't feel you have to carry them just because you're the only daughter. 'Look after yourself. Choose happiness. You know you've always been my favourite.' Before her Corrie exit Helen received a prestigious television award acknowledging long career and contribution to television. She was honored at the North West Royal Television Society awards in Manchester in November 2024. Taking the award she told the audience: "To receive an award, in Manchester, in the north west, the home of Coronation Street, is an absolute joy. "I've done 50 years, I don't know how I did it! 'It just flew by and I never actually thought about it and then one day someone told me I'd been here 50 years and I thought 'I think it's time I left' and that was it really. "I know why I stayed - it was simple - because of all the wonderful people who work on Coronation Street." 4

Q Netflix, streaming now DCI Carl Morck may be an excellent investigator, but there's no hiding from the fact that he's a terrible co-worker. There's the small matter of his scathing sarcasm, which has left him without a single friend in the Edinburgh police force. Then there's the rather more serious issue of him having fatally shot a young officer and permanently injured his partner. Unsurprisingly enough, following this tragic turn of events, Morck is relegated to Department Q: a cold-case unit which was created as a publicity stunt. Although the force is thrilled to see Carl go, he soon sets about assembling a group of outcasts who are all keen to prove themselves. Yes, it does sound a bit like Slow Horses, which is quite the gauntlet for Netflix to throw. Only time will tell if it's worthy of comparison. With yer man from Leap Year (Matthew Goode) essentially playing a hybrid of Gary Oldman's Jackson Lamb and Jack Lowden's River Cartwright, I wouldn't hold my breath. A Widow's Game Netflix, streaming now Picture it: August 2017. In a Valencia parking lot, a man is found stabbed seven times. Coronation Street budget cuts ‘so obvious' say fans as they spot huge change to Audrey's salon – did you see it?

FANS of Coronation Street have said that the budget cuts have become 'so obvious' to see on-screen. Longtime viewers of the ITV soap have spotted a huge change to the set of Audrey's salon. 6 6 6 Helen Worth previously departed Coronation Street last year after five decades in the role as Gail Platt. However, her on-screen family still remains in Weatherfield as her mother Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) still runs the salon. She hires two members of staff, her grandson David (Jack P. Shepherd) and Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) to run the shop. However, one keen viewer took to social media fan forum site Reddit as they noted that the salon nearly always appears to be practically deserted by its once loyal customer base. In a thread titled, 'The salon is always empty!' the user wrote: "Why was Audrey hiring in the salon? "There's always no one there. I remember there used to be a good few people sitting in their getting their hair done back in the day. "I'm playing catchup so I'm way behind. Watching April episodes. This just tickled me. lol." Viewers think that this is all due to the budget cuts at ITV as execs can no longer afford to pay as many guest actors and extras. Another user claimed: "Budget-cuts, most-probably, the way ITV's struggling now. "They probably can't afford guest-characters to fill up the space quite as much as they used to." While someone else commented: "Oh wow. Things must be bad. It's sad because it just doesn't look realistic. It's always empty." Meanwhile, more viewers noticed that the barber shop on Victoria Street called Trim Up North has also disappeared from screens. On the same thread another viewer asked: "What happened to trim up north? That set looked more modern." A second replied: "Yes. That seems to have just disappeared. Unless I missed a storyline about it." Corrie cash crisis: shock exits for 2025 ITV bosses are locked in a battle to save the cash-strapped soap. This means that a number of stars have either been axed from or have abandoned the long-running serial drama. Colson Smith - Craig Tinker The character of Craig Tinker has been axed by bosses after 14 years. After he was told of the news in Autumn 2024, Colson Smith confirmed that would be written out of the show with scenes to air later this year. Craig's on-screen mum, Beth Tinker, also left the show in the summer when actress Lisa George was written out from the role. Sue Cleaver - Eileen Grimshaw After 25 years playing Eileen Grimshaw, former I'm A Celebrity campmate Sue Cleaver will quit the show. The Sun on Sunday reported in January that she's already begun to film her exit scenes. However the character will not be killed off in case Sue opts to make a return in the future. Luca Toolan - Mason Radcliffe Bosses decided to axe the teenage character after just 16 months after he first joined the show. Recent scenes saw Mason stabbed by his criminal brothers after his pal Dylan brought a knife in an attempt to defend him. Sue Devaney - Debbie Webster In November 2024, we revealed that Debbie Webster is set to be killed off after 40 years on the cobbles. The character will die as part of a heartbreaking long-running dementia storyline. Charlotte Jordan - Daisy Midgeley The actress became the fifth star to leave Coronation Street in just one month. We revealed that she will bow out of the ITV soap later this year after four years on-screen. Charlotte told sources that she's hungry to see what other opportunities await. Shelley King - Yasmeen Metcalfe The actress has played Yasmeen Metcalfe on the cobbles for the past 11 years and we revealed in January that she finished filming her final scenes. This follows the departure of her on-screen partner Stu Carpenter. As a third stated: "I think it closed permanently in January 2023 Could be wrong but sure I remember something along those lInes." Bosses previously decided to slash the number of established characters in scenes taking place in the iconic Rovers Return pub in a bid to reportedly claw back cash. Every time actors appear on-screen, they are due a per-episode fee, which can mount up for actors on lucrative deals. The cash crisis at ITV also prompted an exodus of huge cast members from the hit soap. Longtime stars such as Sue Cleaver, Colson Smith, Shelley King, and Sue Devaney have either quit or were forced to leave the cash-strapped serial drama. This comes as ITV has slashed both Corrie and Emmerdale to five 30-minute episodes per week, rather than six. 6 6 6

Colson Smith says he will miss Coronation Street ‘forever' after leaving soap

Coronation Street actor Colson Smith has said he will miss the ITV soap 'forever' after his character died in Wednesday's episode. The 26-year-old, who has played police officer Craig Tinker on the show for 14 years, saw his character die after being beaten with a baseball bat by Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton), after he tried to arrest him. Advertisement Speaking on ITV's This Morning, Smith said of his departure: 'It literally is just working at Coronation Street (that I'll miss the most) and calling that place my work. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Coronation Street (@coronationstreet) 'And it was weird, because when I got asked about highlights, I was trying to think of some of the things we've done, and I've done some mad things, I've met the (late) Queen, and I've done all this stuff, but it's the simple stuff. 'Like, on a summer's day at Corrie, we get an ice cream van, with all your mates and sit outside in the car park and the cast, the crew, the production team, the security staff, the cleaners, we're all so tight there, so sitting out in the summer having an ice cream with your mates, they're kind of the best days. 'It's that craic, that's the stuff that I won't get at any other job, and that's the stuff that I'll miss forever.' Advertisement Smith said he found out he was leaving the soap on the eve of Gail Platt actress Helen Worth's last day on set, and was worried he would ruin it by announcing his own departure. The actor told This Morning: 'I found out on a night, and then I went back in the next day, and it was Helen Worth who played Gail Platt's last day. 'So I've gone in and I'm like, I'm about to ruin Helen's last day, I can't do this, do I keep it a secret? And then by the time I got into work, everyone knew, and it was like Colson had died. 'I walked into the green room and kind of just awkwardly laughed, and Lucy Fallon was heavily pregnant at the time, and she burst into tears, Julia Goulding was crying all day. Advertisement 'I felt for Jack (P Shepherd) and Ben (Price), they were losing their (on screen) mum, and they'd found out that their mate was going, it was just, it was a real rollercoaster of emotions, and it had been all the way through. 'And then the last day, Andy Whyment was just crying, he couldn't even park his car straight in the morning.' Smith will appear for the last time in Friday's episode as doctors pull a sheet over his deceased character's body. Asked what he would be doing next, the actor said: 'It's very bizarre leaving something you've done for so long, because I think it starts the question, 'who's Colson? What does he want to do?'. Advertisement 'So I've been enjoying sitting in the garden, but I know I want to do more work as myself, I love telly, I've found this is my home. 'So I want to spend more time in telly, want to do more stuff as Colson, so we shall see what happens, and I'll be happy with whatever, more podcasting, got a couple of live shows coming up there, more presenting stuff, more audio stuff, that's the stuff I love, so watch this space.'
