Netflix's American Primeval fans must watch 'criminally underrated' Western series climbing top 10
Fans of the Netflix series American Primeval may find their next obsession in the previously overlooked Western series Hell on Wheels. Initially airing on AMC in 2011, the show has been described as "criminally underrated" by Movieweb and has recently become available to stream. The series is set in 1865 and follows former Confederate soldier Cullen Bohannon, played by Anson Mount, as he seeks revenge during the construction of the first transcontinental railroad. With a turbulent review history, the show concluded on a high note with a perfect 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes for its final season. Critics have praised Mount's performance, with Rob Lowman of the Los Angeles Daily News calling him "the epitome of a Western star" for bringing a range of emotions and conflicts to the character. After gaining a small cult following during its initial run, the show has attracted more attention since becoming available on Freevee, where it has entered the platform's top 10. The narrative primarily revolves around Cullen, who initially joins the railroad to hunt down Union soldiers responsible for the murder of his wife and young son during the American Civil War. Hell on Wheels aired for five seasons As the story progresses, he rises through the ranks to become a foreman and ultimately the chief engineer on the railroad. Season one began in 1865, shortly after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Season two covered 1866, while seasons three and four opened in 1867, and season five carried the series into 1869. PETA hosts peaceful protest over Erie restaurant special menu item
Panos' Restaurant in Erie was the target of a PETA protest Thursday. It was a peaceful protest with PETA aiming to convert the popular restaurants' customers to veganism. An inside look at Erie police's Crisis Intervention Unit Inside it was business as usual at Panos' Restaurant with many customers enjoying this week's special: a fried chicken bacon waffle sandwich. But outside, PETA's Hell on Wheels truck was parked raising awareness of what their spokesperson said happens to chickens before they end up on restaurant menus. PETA representatives are hoping the graphic images on the truck along with the graphic sounds coming out of it will convince some meat eaters to go vegan. 'They're crowded onto these crowded transport trucks with hundreds of other chickens in all weather extremes like today where it's snowing. They'll be on the road for hours, sometimes days with no food or water,' said Marnie Chambless, lead tour administrator for PETA. He also couldn't help but wonder. 'Why us? How did we hit the radar when there's giant corporations that sell way more chicken than we do?' said Evan Lagace, general manager of Panos' Restaurant. Chambless said the truck makes stops at fast-food chains as well. Panos' does serve cage-free eggs and has vegan items on the menu. Legace thinks PETA should focus its energy elsewhere.
