Great to do a Gujarati film after so many years in showbiz: Helly Shah
Helly Shah Helly Shah , who made her D-Town debut with Surprise recently, says that she is 'really happy to have finally done a film in my mother tongue.' The popular TV actress, who has done shows like Diya Aur Baati Hum, Laal Ishq and Sufiyana Pyaar Mera, was in Ahmedabad recently. Helly, who made her OTT debut with Gullak 4 last year, adds, 'I was telling Vatsal (Sheth, her co-actor in Surprise) that it's wonderful to have finally done a Gujarati film after so many years in showbiz. I guess there is a right time for everything; der aaye durust aaye. Vatsal is a gem of a person and working with him was really easy.' She adds, 'During the promotional activities of my debut film, I visited Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad. It was great fun because my extended family stays in Ahmedabad. I am a big foodie and love the local delicacies in every city. In Rajkot, I had bhakri with butter and it was mouth-watering.' 'This is an exciting phase for Gujarati cinema ' Helly feels 'this is an exciting phase for Gujarati cinema.' She adds, 'I immediately said yes to Surprise because I found the story intriguing. It was not your typical suspense thriller and playing a thief on screen was great fun. Gujarati cinema is coming up with very good content now, and the production value is excellent too. I like the vision that the makers have for the industry.' She adds, 'I have completed shooting for another Gujarati film, Deda, which may release later this year. It is an emotionally enriching story that is completely different from what I have done in my debut film. I am also in talks for another Gujarati film. My mom and I love enjoying Gujarati films together. We have loved films like Kutch Express, Hellaro, Dear Father, Vash and Chhello Divas . I feel this is a great time for me to enter the industry.' 'Doing comedy for the first time was challenging but fun' Helly, who took a break from TV after Ishq Mein Marjawan 2 (2021), recently made her small screen comeback with Zyada Mat Udd. She says, 'I always wanted to do a sitcom and it's not often that you see a TV show based on the aviation industry. Also, I had never done a comedy before. While it was challenging, I had great fun because I got to work with some terrific co-actors. It's very different from typical saas-bahu serials. ' She adds, 'There are people who have told me that the show has not done as well as we had expected. However, we feel we should be proud because we tried something different. Times are changing and I hope shows that try something new are accepted. I have a couple of interesting OTT projects lined up this year, and I am very excited about them.' Asked about whether TV is exploring new concepts often enough, she shares, 'It's not happening regularly. Saal-do saal mein aisa ek show aata hai, which is completely out of the box. Sometimes, a good show is not appreciated enough when it is released and the audience appreciates its true worth after a few years, like it happened in the case of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. Cannes Film Festival EXCLUSIVE: When Helly Shah spoke about not being invited to Indian Pavilion
Cannes Film Festival 2025 is currently happening, and several celebrities from the Indian film fraternity have graced this prestigious film festival to celebrate films and more. This year, the Cannes Film Festival 2025 kicked off on May 13 and is currently going on. The 78th edition of this prestigious event will run for 12 days. Amidst this, here's revisiting a time when Television's beloved actress Helly Shah had graced this event in 2022. While speaking to us, she had spoken about not being invited to the Indian Pavilion. Earlier, Hina Khan, who walked the Cannes red carpet for the second year, admitted to being hurt for not being invited to the Indian Pavilion. In an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, Helly Shah was asked if she was invited to the Indian Pavilion and was asked about her take on it. Helly had shared, "Yes, Hina Khan spoke about it. I was also not invited but had I been invited I would have been very very happy and proud to represent my country." Further, the Ishq Mein Marjawan 2 actress had shared, "Strangely, I was not disappointed. This was my first-ever appearance at the Cannes Film Festival and a different experience altogether. I honestly didn't take it that way 'Oh, I was not invited and I am really upset and disappointed' but yes, if I'd gone to the Indian Pavilion on the first day, it would have been a very great feeling." While speaking to us, Helly had also shared her experience of meeting with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan at the Cannes Film Festival. She even shared that she spoke to Junior Bachchan for "10-15 minutes about sports" and called it an "enriching experience." Workwise, Helly Shah has had an illustrious career in the Television world. She starred in Alaxmi – Humari Super Bahu, Khelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi, Swaragini – Jodein Rishton Ke Sur, Devanshi, Ishq Mein Marjawan 2 and more. At present, Helly is seen in Zyada Mat Udd essaying the lead role of Kajal Thakkar.

Helly Shah, who debuted at Cannes in 2022, had planned to attend the 2025 festival. However, she had to decline the opportunity. Helly Shah was hoping to attend Cannes 2025 , but the actress will have to give the prestigious film festival a miss this year. Helly, who made her Cannes debut in 2022, tells us, 'I was supposed to go this year. A big brand had approached me and we were working out the details. But my debut Gujarati film is releasing around the same time and hence, I had to opt out.' She adds, 'I am feeling a little bad, but I couldn't do anything about it. I remember three years ago when I visited Cannes, I got a lot of love and was hoping to go there again.' The actress, who began her journey in television, is now focusing on OTT and films . Reflecting on the shift, she notes the contrast in work patterns. "Films are very different from television. You work for a few weeks or months and then you're free to look for your next project.' So, how does she handle the downtime? She replies, 'It took me a while to adjust to it, but now I've embraced it. I try to learn new skills during my free time. Sure, there are hard days, but I stay positive and wait for the right roles to come my way.

For the 'Severance' director and executive producer, fan interactions are one of the positive things about being a public figure. More from Variety 'I find it, actually, really inspiring to be interacting with the audience because we never had that, my generation growing up,' Stiller told Variety at the 'Severance' Season 2 FYC event on Saturday in Los Angeles. 'When somebody doesn't like something, I'll [still] go back and forth with them sometimes and I find that fun, too, because usually once you start talking to somebody or interacting, something positive can come out of it. It's also kind of fun. And at the end of the day, I don't really take it that seriously.' Stiller's social media interactions have come at a time when 'Severance' truly hit the zeitgeist with fan theories. For this season in particular, that included the meaning of the mysterious Cold Harbor file and the outies secretly hijacking their innie's bodies at work. Tramell Tillman, a breakout star of the show for his performance as Mr. Milchick, found the work retreat episode, where Helly (Britt Lower) is exposed as Helena by Irving (John Turturro), the hardest to keep under wraps. 'I could not wait for people to experience that because when I was at home and I read the script for the first time, I nearly tossed my laptop down,' Tillman said. 'I felt betrayed. I felt lied to! I said, 'The whole time?' So it was really rewarding when that episode aired and I got to see the reactions of the viewers and how they responded to that reveal.' Following the season finale, many fans speculated whether the version of Helly who runs off with Mark (Adam Scott) in the hallway, leaving Gemma (Dichen Lachman) behind, is actually Helena. While Lower previously disproved that theory, show creator Dan Erickson sees those interpretations as an indicator of people's genuine investment. 'I think that people really do love Gemma and they love Mark and Gemma, and the idea of Mark and Helly sort of making this choice that is so heartbreaking, I think some people have trouble with that. And I understand it — they should,' Erickson said. 'I don't see it as a moment of somebody stealing somebody else's lover. I see it as a moment of somebody claiming their own autonomy and the importance of their own existence.' Even when fans were able to catch onto twists, like the big Episode 4 reveal with Helena, Scott thinks people reading into it is ultimately for the better. 'It didn't matter whether people thought that was true, didn't think it was true, was completely convinced of it or was maybe on the fence,' Scott said. 'It's actually fun to kind of have that idea rummaging through your head and not exactly knowing one way or the other. It was something we were worried about, like, 'Are people going to be able to guess?' But then once some people did, it actually enhanced the experience of the show.' The Most Common ‘Severance' Season 2 Finale Theory Is Wrong
Severance Apple The Severance season 2 finale has fans theorizing about many aspects of it, whether what they saw was really what happened, or what reveals may be about to come. Now, an actor has shot down the most prevalent finale theory about her character explicitly. The idea here is that in the finale's gut-wrenching moment where innie Mark chooses between letting outie Mark reunite with Gemma, and staying inside Lumon with Helly, that some people believe that was actually Helena, once again, seeking out Mark and tempting him to stay, something Helly wouldn't do as to some, that seems 'cruel.' But Helly/Helena actress Britt Lower has confirmed that is wrong in an interview with the LA Times. Here's what she said when asked the question: Severance Apple 'That's Helly R. in the final episode. But I think, in [Episode 9], Dylan has thrown some doubt in her own understanding of herself. She's lost this father figure in Irving and then she's lost this brother figure because Dylan seems to have turned his back on her, at least in that episode. When Mark, at the beginning of [Episode 10], presents her with this chance for him to get to live in some capacity, and she's just seen her weird dad, who's told her, 'Oh, I see Kier in you,' it cast some doubt inside of herself that she has a family anymore.' I've seen more plausible ideas that she was simply trying to find Mark to see him leave, or to confirm he got out, rather than 'lure' him back. Though obviously she's not sad about it. My Helly theory is separate from this and more along the lines of something Lower brings up. I think Jame is going to try to 'flip' Helena into effectively being the innie and Helly into being the outie, given the 'Kier fire' bit, and that his litter of children are not what he's looking for, including his own, actual Lumon-executive daughter who he says explicitly he doesn't love. Obviously I doubt that Helly is going to be on board with this, but it feels like a plot device to, at the very least, move her outside of the severed floor for more than just a brief moment. But no, no more Helena/Helly swap tricks, as that feels like something the show can only get away with once, though yes, I understand why people are paranoid.
