His son on run since killing teacher, man slits own throat at police stn
Jaipur: In an unexpected development in the investigation into the killing of a govt school teacher in Banswara, the father of the murder accused allegedly slit his own throat at Kalinjara police station when he was brought there Wednesday for questioning about his son's whereabouts.
Police have not clarified what the sharp object he used was or how he managed to harm himself. He is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Udaipur.
The man, 50-year-old Hemant Bhagaura, is the father of Mahipal Bhagaura, a taxi driver accused of murdering 36-year-old Leela Tabiyar, a Grade-II Sanskrit teacher. The killing took place on July 1, when Leela was waiting at the Kalinjara town bus stand. According to police, Mahipal arrived in a car and attacked her without warning, stabbing her repeatedly in the stomach with a sword in full public view.
Leela collapsed at the scene as stunned bystanders watched in disbelief. Mahipal tried to flee but crashed his car into a tree shortly after and escaped on foot. He has been on the run since. Police said they brought Hemant Bhagaura in for questioning Wednesday morning. Shortly after his arrival at the police station, officers noticed blood oozing from his throat.
"He was immediately taken to a local hospital and later referred to Udaipur for treatment.

We recorded his statement, in which he said he injured himself," said Vikram Singh Ranawat, SHO of Kalinjara police station.
"Our main concern was to ensure he received medical care. Whether he hurt himself before entering the station or while inside, we cannot confirm at this stage," he added.
Sources said police have been brining Mahipal's family members, including his father and elder brother, regularly to the police station for questioning and to build pressure on Mahipal to surrender.
