Netherlands envoy pays farewell call on Aurangzeb
ISLAMABAD: Henny de Vries, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, paid a farewell call on Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, at the Finance Division today, said a press release issued on Monday. The finance minister commended Ambassador de Vries for her efforts in furthering and strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations between Pakistan and the Netherlands. He especially acknowledged her contribution to enhancing cooperation across diverse fields, including trade and commerce. Senator Aurangzeb also appreciated the positive role and contributions of Dutch companies operating in Pakistan, recognising their efforts in advancing the country's socio-economic development. During the meeting, both sides discussed matters of mutual interest. The finance minister briefed the ambassador on recent economic developments in Pakistan, including improvements in sovereign credit ratings, a strengthened security environment, and enhanced investor confidence — all supported by stability across key sectors. He outlined the government's economic vision centred on durable, inclusive, and export-led growth. He further elaborated on the fiscal policy framework embedded in the recently announced federal budget, highlighting the careful balancing of increased social protection and defence spending with significant reductions in subsidies and debt servicing costs. This prudent approach has limited the overall budgetary expansion to just 1.9 percent this year, a marked contrast to the 9 to 10 percent annual increases seen in previous years. Ambassador de Vries expressed appreciation for the progress made in achieving macroeconomic stability and welcomed the country's current direction. She expressed hope that Pakistan would continue its trajectory towards long-term economic growth and prosperity. Minister meets Dutch Ambassador
LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, held a significant meeting with H.E. Henny de Vries, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Pakistan, as attend the King's Day celebrations here in Lahore. The meeting underscored the growing importance of sports diplomacy in fostering international relations and youth engagement. On the occasion, the Minister highlighted key initiatives of the Sports Department Punjab, particularly those launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif. These initiatives are designed to enhance sports infrastructure, promote youth participation, and revive traditional sports across the province. Minister Khokhar expressed a strong desire to collaborate with the Netherlands, with a specific focus on hockey—a sport historically cherished by both nations. He emphasized the potential for technical cooperation, capacity building, and mutual exchange programs to support player development, coaching, and sports science. The discussions were further enriched by the presence of legendary Dutch hockey player Floris Jan Bovelander and Pakistan's celebrated Olympian Touqeer Dar, symbolizing the shared legacy and passion for hockey. Both legends shared insights on the development of the sport and opportunities to mentor young athletes. Ambassador Henny de Vries welcomed the proposals and affirmed the Netherlands' commitment to fostering sports-based partnerships. Governor discusses trade ties with Netherlands envoy
LAHORE: Ambassador of the Netherlands to Pakistan, Mrs. Henny de Vries called on Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan at Governor House Lahore and matters concerning promotion of trade relations between Pakistan and the Netherlands, sports and matters of mutual interest came under discussion. Honorary Consul General of the Netherlands in Lahore Asma Hamid, former Olympic hockey player Floris Jan Bovelandar, Dutch-Pakistani football player Kainat Bukhari and former hockey Olympian Khawaja Junaid were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with the Netherlands. He said that starting a games exchange programme between Pakistan and the Netherlands would further promote relations between the two countries. He said that there is a need to increase cooperation in sports between Pakistan and the Netherlands. He said that the infrastructure, coaching academy and players' exchange programme in collaboration with the Netherlands for the revival of hockey will further expand the relations between the two countries. The governor said that there are vast possibilities to promote cooperation between Pakistan and the Netherlands in the economic sector as well. He said that the revival of sports in universities is very important and in this regard, sports will be organized in universities soon. He further said that there should be exchange of delegations at the public level between Pakistan and the Netherlands.
