Sporting Lisbon Taps JPMorgan for €100 Million-Plus Debt Sale

By and Henrique Almeida Save Sporting Lisbon is working with JPMorgan Chase & Co. on a plan to raise at least €100 million ($117 million) in debt in the coming months, according to people familiar with the matter. The Portuguese sports club is considering issuing bonds following rival FC Porto's €115 million private placement last year, said the people, asking not to be named as the matter isn't public. Sporting plans to use the funds to refinance existing loans and support day-to-day operations, the people said, adding there's no certainty the deliberations will result in a debt sale.

Lenore Sports Buys Stake in Portuguese Football Club Benfica

Markets Deals By and Henrique Almeida Save Lenore Sports Partners, an investment group that includes the co-founder of private equity firm Crescent Capital, has acquired a minority stake in Benfica SAD, the company that manages one of the most valuable Portuguese football clubs. Jean-Marc Chapus, the co-founder of Crescent Capital, is one of four partners at Lenore involved in buying the 5.24% holding, according to a statement from Benfica SAD.

'A political crisis should be avoided, but it also has to be said that it may come to be unavoidable,' Montenegro said in a televised speech in Lisbon on Saturday night. 'I won't be here at any cost.'
