Limerick crime surges as car ransacked, van looted, and Audi stolen in broad daylight
According to Sergeant Aoife Bannon of the Henry Street Community Policing unit, several incidents have occurred in different parts of the city. The first incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, June 26, between midnight and 9am, in the Ballinacurra Road area. A parked car was entered and a sum of cash was taken. Gardaí at Roxboro Road Station are asking anyone who may have noticed suspicious activity in the area to contact them on 061 214 340. A separate theft occurred on Wednesday morning, June 25, in the Woodview area on the city's north side. In this case, a work van was broken into between 5:50am and 7:30am, and a number of essential tools were stolen. Anyone with information is asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212 400. Sergeant Bannon shared that even when parked in familiar or quiet locations 'thieves often go around checking for unlocked vehicles. It's all about opportunity, and if it's there, they'll take it.' In a more serious case, a vehicle was stolen in broad daylight on Saturday afternoon, June 28. The incident occurred in the Clancy Strand area around 2:30pm when a grey 2021 Audi SUV was taken after being left running outside a house while the owner briefly stepped away. The car has not yet been recovered. 'Leaving the engine running, even just for a second, is an easy trap to fall into,' said Sergeant Bannon. Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the Clancy Strand area that afternoon is urged to contact Henry Street Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.
