‘Wall that Heals' veterans memorial open for viewing

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — The Wall That Heals — a replica of Washington, DC's Vietnam Veterans Memorial — is now set up in Warren. A welcome home ceremony was held Thursday evening on the South Lawn of Packard Music Hall, where the wall is set up. Clusters of people walked and stopped along the wall, looking for the names of someone they knew who was killed during the Vietnam War. It will be available for people to view through Sunday. Taps will be played each night at sunset. 'It's an experience that kind of heals the community, heals the veterans who served, their friends and neighbors and family that don't get that opportunity to go and share and remember them the proper way,' said co-chairman Herm Breuer. Friday at 6 p.m., the nurses who served in Vietnam will be honored, then on Saturday at 2 p.m., there will be a Medal of Honor tribute. The closing ceremony is at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday. 150 hams donated to local veterans for Easter

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — Veterans know the need among other veterans. They wanted to make sure anyone who served our country would have a special Easter meal. The Military Order of Purple Hearts handed out hams in front of VFW Post 1090. There were 150 hams that were available. Veterans just needed to show a military ID or a driver's license with an Armed Forces emblem, which recognizes their military service. 'It's amazing. They serve their country, and this is just one way that we're able to give back to them at the holidays,' Veteran Herm Breuer said. 'It feels great helping our community out, teaming up with the Military Order of Purple Hearts, trying to give back to our community,' VFW Senior Vice Commander Skip O'Rourke said. The 150 hams were donated by Denise and John York. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Replica Vietnam Veterans Memorial making stop in Warren this year

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – The traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be making its return to Trumbull County at the end of May. The Wall That Heals is making its second trip to Warren. More than 13,000 people visited the memorial when it was first there in 2018. The three-quarter scale replica of the National Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be escorted to the south lawn of Packard Music Hall on May 27. Once it's set up, it'll be open 24 hours a day for the public to visit free of charge until its scheduled departure on June 1. The names of the more than 58,000 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam are on the wall. 'Those individuals that were killed in Vietnam, when they came home, their families held a quiet ceremony for them and the community didn't turn out. So it's a much different thing that we're going through today but it is really, really important that we remember them,' said Co-Chair Herm Breuer. The Warren Heritage Center, in partnership with Denise and John York, helped bring the traveling memorial back to Warren. It's the only Ohio stop in 2025. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
