3 held for assaulting security guard, robbing his bike in south Delhi

Three unemployed college graduates, suspected to be drunk, impersonated police officers, assaulted a security guard, and stole his motorcycle in south Delhi on Thursday, police said. The three were arrested on Saturday, police said on Sunday. Police recovered the victim's Hero Splendor motorcycle which the accused had abandoned on a roadside in Janakpuri, officers said. (Representational image) The accused, identified as Prashant Kumar, 22, a BTech graduate, Garvit Sharma, 25, who has a bachelor's degree in computer applications (BCA), and Aniket Singh, a postgraduate in computer applications (MCA), have no prior criminal record, officers said. 'At 7.27pm on Thursday, the Indira Gandhi International Airport police station received a call from a man who identified himself as Amarpal Singh, 47, a security guard employed at a business centre in Gurugram Aerocity. He said that he was on his way to work when three men on a motorcycle waylaid him near the Mahipalpur underpass,' said additional commissioner of police (IGI Airport) Usha Rangnani. 'The three claimed to be police officers, accused Singh of rash riding and causing a road accident, and seized his bike's keys. They asked him to accompany them to the police station. When Singh asked to see some identification, the three became angry. One of them slapped him while another got on his bike and fled. The remaining two fled on their motorcycle,' Rangnani added. A police team arrived on the scene, met Singh and later registered a case of cheating by impersonation. Police examined footage from nearly 300 CCTV cameras installed on routes that the accused used during the crime. They identified the motorcycle and its owner, Siddharth (single name) from Shakarpur in east Delhi. Siddharth told police that he had given the bike to his friend, Garvit Sharma, a resident of Palam village, a year ago, said officers. Police showed Siddharth's photograph to Singh, who told them that Siddharth was not one of the three men who had assaulted and robbed him, said officers. 'Sharma was arrested from Palam on Saturday through technical and human intelligence. His interrogation led to the arrest of Aniket Singh and Prashant Kumar. The three revealed that on Thursday, they had consumed liquor in a park in Kishangarh village. After getting drunk, Prashant expressed a desire to do something 'thrilling'. Acting on this impulse, the three conspired to rob a motorcycle by impersonating police officers and executed their plan later that evening,' said Rangnani. Police recovered the victim's Hero Splendor motorcycle which the accused had abandoned on a roadside in Janakpuri, officers said. Police also seized Siddharth's motorcycle from the accused.

Three drunk friends pose as cops, steal bike; caught

New Delhi: What began as a night of revelry turned into a misguided act of thrill-seeking and crime. Garvit Sharma (25), a BCA graduate, Prashant Kumar (22), a graduate, and Aniket (23), who holds an MCA degree, had been close friends since their college days. On June 26, after consuming alcohol, the trio hatched a reckless plan—to impersonate police officers and steal a motorcycle. Their target was Amarpal Singh, a security guard riding his Hero Splendor motorcycle near the Mahipalpur underpass. Garvit blocked Singh's path while the others posed as police officers, falsely accusing him of rash driving. Prashant snatched the keys from Singh, and when the victim demanded to see their identification, Aniket responded by allegedly slapping him. Prashant then fled on the bike, while Garvit and Aniket escaped on their Bajaj Enticer. Next morning, IGI Airport Police swung into action. "The case was cracked within 24 hours through examination of over 250–300 CCTV cameras," said Additional Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) Usha Rangnani. Three arrested for motorcycle robbery near IGI Airport, case solved in 24 hours

New Delhi [India], June 29 (ANI): Delhi Police arrested three individuals for robbing a motorcycle near Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport by impersonating police officers. The case, reported on June 26, was solved within 24 hours, and both the stolen bike and the vehicle used in the crime were recovered. According to officials, the incident occurred around 7:10 PM near the Mahipalpur underpass, when the victim, Amarpal Singh, a 47-year-old security guard with GMR RAXA, was stopped by three men on a motorcycle. Claiming to be police officers, the accused falsely accused Singh of rash driving, seized his bike keys, and when he questioned their identity, one of the men slapped him. One accused fled with Singh's Hero Splendor, while the other two escaped on a black Bajaj Enticer. A case was registered at the IGI Airport police station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Given the sensitive location, three dedicated teams led by Inspectors Sumit, Satish, and Avdesh were formed. Nearly 300 CCTV cameras across Palam, Airport, and Vasant Kunj areas were scanned, eventually leading investigators to a Bajaj Enticer registered to a man named Siddharth in Shakarpur. Acting promptly on the lead, the team immediately rushed to Shakarpur, where the registered owner of the motorcycle, Siddharth, was located and apprehended for questioning. To verify his statement, Siddharth's identity was shown to the complainant, who confirmed that Siddharth was not one of the accused involved in the incident. During interrogation, Siddharth disclosed that he had handed over the motorcycle approximately one year ago to an acquaintance, Garvit Sharma, a 25-year-old BCA graduate from Palam. Technical surveillance and local inputs led to Garvit's arrest, who confessed to the crime. He said he, along with Prashant Kumar (22, and Aniket Singh (23, MCA), hatched the plan while drinking in a park. Following leads from Garvit, police arrested Aniket from Kishangarh and Prashant from Dashrath Puri. Both confessed, and the stolen motorcycle was recovered near Janak Cinema, where it had been abandoned. The investigation in the case continues, and the Delhi Police said that strict legal action will be taken against all three accused. (ANI)
