TAG Heuer launches a trio of Monaco watches for the Monaco GP, and I'm having trouble choosing a favourite

In celebration of its historic new role as title sponsor of the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco, TAG Heuer has unleashed not one, not two, but three new Monaco chronographs. Each one is loaded with motorsport heritage, technical brilliance and enough flair to leave any racing fan or watch geek in a cold sweat. And frankly, I'm stuck, because picking a favourite is like choosing your favourite child – if your kids were Swiss, square, and crafted in titanium. Let's start with the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Stopwatch, arguably the most nostalgic of the bunch. Inspired by Heuer's handheld stopwatches from the '60s and '70s, this limited run of 970 pieces is a masterclass in retro-cool. There's a black circular display set into a silver dial, surrounded by a red minute track that looks ripped straight off a vintage stopwatch. The subdials, all crisp whites and blacks, are all gloriously retro, while the red chronograph hand delivers a satisfying visual pop. It even uses the vintage Heuer logo, which I love. The case is DLC-coated titanium – light, tough, and very modern – but the left-hand crown keeps things faithful to the Monaco lineage. Under the hood, it's packing the Calibre 11, the same movement that powered the original 1969 Monaco. Add a black perforated racing-style leather strap and bespoke packaging, and you've got a watch that feels like a time capsule. It's available now for $9850 in the US and £8600 in the UK, from TAG Heuer's website. So, that's the heritage pick. But if you like your icons with stripes and movie-star swagger, the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph x Gulf is hard to beat. Another limited edition (971 pieces, nodding to the year Le Mans hit cinemas), this one celebrates Steve McQueen's connection to TAG Heuer and Gulf's legendary racing livery. Think iconic blue and orange racing stripes running straight down the dial – a direct callback to McQueen's racing suit and his Porsche 917K in Le Mans. Again, we get the Calibre 11 and the signature left-side crown, which isn't just quirky – it's historically accurate. But it's the dial that steals the show. With a finely grained silver base, a vintage Heuer logo, and the Gulf emblem at six o'clock. Again, available now on TAG Heuer's website, priced at $9550 in the US and £8300 in the UK. And then there's the wild card: the TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph. If the Stopwatch is a tribute to the past and the Gulf edition is a celebration of pop culture, this is rooted firmly in the future. Crafted entirely in a new form of titanium called TH-Titanium – developed in-house over four years – it's not just light (86 grams total), it's got a texture that looks like it's been struck by lightning. Each case is unique, shaped by a proprietary thermal process, making it look more like a science experiment than a watch. It's powered by the Calibre TH81-00, a hand-wound movement developed with Vaucher, also crafted in titanium. It's a rattrapante movement, which means it can time two events simultaneously – perfect if you're tracking lap times or just want to flex on your Daytona and El Primero-wearing friends. The skeleton dial and sapphire crystal caseback expose everything, right down to the lime green rattrapante hand that pops against the darkened movement. The TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph is available now, with the price available on request. So, which one wins? While I love all three for very different reasons, I think the Stopwatch takes it, but no matter which watch you choose, each is a love letter to the Monaco Grand Prix and to TAG Heuer's legacy. Liked this? My favourite Zenith watch has just been upgraded with a stunning stone dial

Evanston man has had 3 different cars smashed by trees on his block

EVANSTON, Ill. — A man has had three vehicles smashed by different trees on his block in Evanston. Tim Heuer says it started back in 2014 when a tree limb dropped on his wife's car. The vehicle was repaired, and Heuer's wife still drives it. That tree was eventually removed. Then in 2016, a second tree dropped a limb that totaled his blue Honda CRV, that he had for about one month. And just this past April, a parkway tree dropped a limb on Heuer's green Subaru — that he's only had for about eight months. Heuer joined WGN Morning News Wednesday to talk about his lousy luck with trees. 'So the trees are all maple trees. When the elm trees all died with Dutch elm disease, they replaced them all with maple trees. Now the maple trees are mature and about ready to die. And they're dying on me,' Heuer joked. He tells WGN Morning News he does not have a garage, so he parks his car infront of his home. Heuer said all three incidents involved different trees. 'The first tree that dropped on my wife's car is dead and gone. The second tree that dropped on the blue car is dead and gone. And I'm assuming the third tree is going to be taken out at some point and time,' he told WGN. The city of Evanston does not cover damages caused by falling tree or limbs. Heuer joked his next car may be a Dodge. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Daniels replaces Willis on county Election Board

ANDERSON — There has been a change in the makeup of the Madison County Election Board. Kelli Heuer, the newly elected chairperson of the Madison County Republican Party, has removed former chairman Russ Willis from the board. Willis had served as chairman for 12 years. Heuer announced Monday that she has named Michele Daniels as an interim Republican Party board member. Since being named chairperson, Heuer has said she is committed to building a stronger, more unified Republican Party, according to a press release. 'I'm excited to appoint Michele Daniels to this position,' Heuer said. 'She is a lifelong Republican and a dedicated community member. 'She will be instrumental in bringing a collaborative spirit and a strong commitment to fairness, respect, and transparency,' she added. Heuer said Daniels will serve on the Election Board until a long-term appointment is made. Daniels joins Madison County Clerk Linda Smith and Democrat Tim Lanane on the board.

Heuer elected to lead local Republicans

CHESTERFIELD — Kelli Heuer will guide the Madison County Republican Party as chairperson after turning back a challenge from Lisa Rinker. Republicans met Saturday at the Millcreek Civic Center to elect a new leadership team. All four positions were contested. Heuer received 118 votes to 70 for Rinker. Rick Gardner, a current Madison County Commissioner, will serve as vice chairman with Kira Wilkinson as secretary and Nick Freeman as treasurer. The party has been dealing with a disgruntled group of party members unhappy with the leadership. Russ Willis, who served as chairman for 12 years, did not seek re-election. 'Many of us remember the lean years where Republicans couldn't win county offices,' Willis said before the vote. 'Now Republicans hold every county office. Voters recognize good government and continue to elect Republicans.' Before the vote, Willis said anyone who was disruptive during the meeting would be asked to leave the building and could be escorted out. Former state party chairman Kyle Hoffer made the nominating speech for Heuer. Hoffer said Heuer has the experience and skills to perform the job as chairperson. 'I have observed her in action over the past decade,' he said. 'Kelli was among the first calls we made to get things done. 'Being a county chairman is one of the toughest political jobs,' Hoffer continued. 'The job is to win elections.' He referenced the constant level of dissatisfaction in Madison County and said that Heuer will fight to elect Republicans. 'She will not be intimidated by anyone,' Hoffer said. Heuer said she has been involved with the Republican Party for 20 years and that she knows what it takes to lead. 'As vice chairman since 2021, I have knocked on doors, make telephone calls and raised funds to elect Republicans,' she said. 'I have the strengths and experience for leadership. 'I have assembled a strong, cross-generational team,' Heuer added. 'We will modernize our approach and strengthen the party infrastructure. The time for division is over; the time for action is now.' Rinker was introduced by Madison County Sheriff John Beeman. 'When I ran for sheriff, the party structure was backing another candidate, but we won,' he said. 'Lisa will bring the same energy and intensity and unite the organization into something lasting.' Beeman said Rinker would not work for a select few candidates and would build the party from the grassroots. 'It will be a party that represents we the people,' he said. Rinker opened by asking the assembled precinct people if the Republican Party was broken. She said her team was running on the ideals of unity, communication and growth. 'We will support all candidates and won't make endorsements in primary elections,' Rinker said. She said the party will have a Facebook page that is open to everyone and will respect all opinions. 'When it comes to growth, I want to return trust in the party leadership,' Rinker said. 'We will work to increase party membership and increase voter turnout in the primaries.' She said she plans to raise money for the party to have a local headquarters location. 'I'm a proven leader,' Rinker said, 'that will bring a new and better path for the party and restore the Republican Party to what it once was. The party will no longer be broken.' Before the vote, the precinct committeemen and vice committeemen defeated a proposed amendment to the rules that would have allow people removed from the positions to cast a provisional ballot.
