Raphael Sallinger hopes to be on pitch as fans sing ‘Sunshine on Leith'

Hibs new signing Raphael Sallinger is looking forward to being on the Easter Road pitch and hearing the fans sing 'Sunshine on Leith'. The 6ft 5' shot-stopper has committed to a three-year deal with the club and revealed his excitement at getting started ahead of the 2025/26 campaign following his first visit to HTC and Easter Road Stadium. 'I'm very happy,' Sallinger told Hibs TV: 'I think Hibs is a great club with great fans in a great city. I'm very much looking forward to being here and playing successful football. 'I think, especially for a goalkeeper, it's good when you're here at the start of the pre-season. It's a new country for me and new teammates. 'I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and I'm happy to be here.' The 29-year-old has spent the entirety of his career up to this point in Austria and Germany, most recently starring for Austrian Bundesliga outfit, and Austrian Cup finalists, TSV Hartberg. Sallinger arrives in Leith targeting the first-choice goalkeeping position, and is excited to perform in front of large crowds at Easter Road. 'For me it was always a target for me to play outside of Austria. Austria is a good league, but in Germany, Scotland or the UK football is different. 'To be in Scotland and to play in front of a lot of fans was always a target for me. 'I hope I can help the team a lot and I hope that we can reach our targets, and also get into a European group stage. Maybe we can even have a better season than last season.' Sallinger also touched on his awe at the Hibees' support, before admitting his affection for one beloved Hibs anthem in particular. 'I've watched the last Hibs' two games and the fans in the crowd are really impressive. 'Especially after the game against Rangers when the fans were singing Sunshine On Leith. It was pretty amazing and pretty impressive to me. 'I'm looking forward to having this feeling on the pitch.' Like this: Like Related

Dwight Gayle calls time on illustrious playing career but he'll be back at Easter Road

Dwight Gayle bid farewell to Hibs and called time on his illustrious playing career yesterday after winning the Man of the match award despite not starting. The veteran forward joined the Club in summer 2024 as a back up when Kieron Bowie suffered a bad injury. He only spent a year with Hibs but he certainly made his mark. Gayle registered 10 goal contributions in 29 appearances scoring some vital goals throughout the season – including that winner at Tynecastle on Boxing Day. Gayle was given a guard of honour at the end of the match – a special moment that he was able to enjoy with his family by his side. He told Hibs TV: 'After the game, I was very emotional, we got a fantastic reception from the fans and it has honestly been a pleasure to play for such a historic club and big club. 'I have very fond memories from my time here at Hibs –they are some of the best of my career. The dressing room has been unbelievable, as well as the coaching staff – so I am so thankful that I was able to end it in this way. 'I was a bit embarrassed in the end, I was awarded 'Man of the Match' but I had an absolute stinker. But I was very emotional at the end because football means so much to me. 'It has been such a pleasure to be around some of the boys in the dressing room, to see some of them progress in their careers and get international call-ups as well brings me nothing but joy.' Reflecting on his career as a whole, Gayle explained how much he has enjoyed the last 12 months and assured the Hibs fans that he would be back as a supporter next season! 'Hibs has been a completely different part of my career; I have come here and tried to help the team in any way I can – either on the pitch or off the pitch. 'I got some nice video messages from the boys on my last day on how I have helped them or helped the team which was great to hear. I have formed a lot of friendships and there are people at the Club that I will stay in touch with in the future. 'I will be coming back here next season to watch the European games for sure! It has been a fantastic year for me, and I am so thankful that I have been able to come to Hibs and experience it.' Like this: Like Related

David Gray wants to end season with a victory over Rangers

David Gray aims to end the season as strongly as possible with a victory over Rangers in the final game of the William Hill Premiership season. Hibs confirmed third place on Wednesday night at the SMiSA Stadium, but Gray wants his players to be right at it this afternoon. When speaking to Hibs TV ahead of this weekend's tie, he explained his message to his squad. 'We want to end the season as strongly as possible. It's been a long time since we beat Rangers at home in the top-flight, so it's a difficult thing to do. We want to keep momentum going, finish on a high, and the players would deserve that for their efforts this season. 'We go into the game full of confidence, knowing the fans will be right behind us, it's almost a sell-out, and these are the games every player wants to be involved in.' Hibs beat Rangers at Ibrox in the last meeting between the two sides, and performed admirably in a 3-3 draw at Easter Road back in January, and Gray expects his players to take belief from those games. 'They've been very close games, and our players will take a lot of confidence from the recent results. Rangers will want to put that right, though. We're expecting a reaction from them. 'There's no such thing as a nothing game, especially when these two teams meet, the magnitude of the game and everything at stake. 'It's a brilliant opportunity for the players to test themselves again. It'll be a brilliant game to finish with.' Like this: Like Related

David Gray praises ‘special group' of players after third place finish

David Gray praised his players as Hibs confirmed a third-place finish in the William Hill Premiership last night with a 2-2 draw in an action-packed game at the SMiSA Stadium in Paisley. When speaking after the game to Hibs TV, Gray expressed his immediate pride. 'I'm delighted; the players thoroughly deserve it. I'm delighted they've got over the line with a game to spare too. 'At this stage of the season, the league table doesn't lie. I probably didn't say that after 12/13 games because of the start we had, but that makes it all sweeter coming through that adversity, and it really brought the group together. 'The players thoroughly deserve it. I'm delighted for absolutely everyone; the staff, the club, the players – they take all the credit for it. I think we deserve it.' Hibs were bottom of the league in mid-December before going on a historic run of form which catapulted the team up the league. Gray, again, mounted praise on his players for that, defining them as a 'special group'. 'I've said it numerous times this year about the togetherness of the group. 'The adversity made us stronger, coming through that together, and there's been big moments this season. You go back to the Rocky goal, how big that was, and that was probably the turning point. 'I always believed in the players, and the effort was always there. You could see that on the training pitch every day and the staff were right behind me every day. We always believed given the time we'd turn it round. 'This group is a special group in terms of the characters, it's not just about technical ability, it's about the blend of experience and youth, and about players that really understand what it takes to play for Hibs. A lot of success has been down to the power of the group.' The fans have been with Gray and his players all season, and he reserved a special message for them. 'They've been outstanding with me for 10 years. I've been very fortunate to be at this Club for as long as I have, and the support has never wavered. 'I can understand their frustrations at the start of the season because it's very expensive to follow a football team, but they've always been with us and got us through big games. 'The connection between the players and the fans is as strong as I've seen it in 10 years and that's credit to absolutely everyone involved. 'The fans went through the adversity as much as us, probably more because they can't directly affect it on the football pitch, but we all stuck together, believed we could turn it round, and now we've got the rewards for that.' Hibs Player of the Year Nicky Cadden says his hard work has been worth it

Nicky Cadden was delighted to be named Hibernian FC's 2024/25 Player of the Year. The left wing-back piped Martin Boyle, Rocky Bushiri, and Nectar Triantis to the coveted award, and received it in his first season with the club. When speaking to Hibs TV after the awards ceremony, the 28-year-old described his immediate emotions. 'It's massive. I'm very happy. It shows all my hard work has been worth it. 'There are a lot of good players and good people in the dressing room that have played really well this year. I'm just delighted it was me. 'We've got a big game Wednesday to try and secure third, hopefully we can do that, and then we can have a party.' The 2024/25 campaign was celebrated at the Club's End of Season awards night as players, staff, and supporters looked back at some of the memorable moments from the season, and when speaking with the award in-hand, Nicky explained his personal highlights. 'Beating Celtic and Hearts at home, and Jack Iredale's goal, but only because he's stood behind you! 'Nah, beating them both at home and Hearts away; they're probably the highlights. 'I'm sure if we secure third, that'll take over though. The season's been really good and I'm really happy with it.' Nicky joined Hibs at the beginning of August and immediately fitted into the dressing, thanks to the support of his twin brother, Chris. This is the first time the pair have played together professionally, and they've both been enjoying every minute of it. 'I've loved playing with Chris, obviously playing with my brother is a massive thing, but it's not just him, the changing room is good. 'We've got a really good group, so hopefully we can keep most of it together and we can have a right good go next year.' Like this: Like Related
