Rafizi backs PKR disciplinary board's fair campaign call, warns against selective enforcement
KOTA BARU: PKR deputy president candidate Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has agreed with the PKR disciplinary board's recommendation to refrain from tarnishing the party's image or launching personal attacks but emphasised that the guidelines must be applied fairly to all. Rafizi, who is also the Economy Minister, said the board's guidelines are capable of promoting healthy competition within the party, but they must be implemented consistently. "If people recall the personal attacks against me, they happened suddenly, with statement after statement being issued, including claims of rejection by the grassroots. "Later, statements emerged accusing me of neglecting the grassroots. These are baseless allegations, and the PKR disciplinary board must take action against all parties responsible for creating this situation. "In addition, I have also been targeted by irresponsible groups on social media, which should not occur. "However, I view this as part of the challenges during the campaign period," he said at a press conference after the Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi dalam Ujian Kuasa (HIRUK) tour programme at the state National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) Complex in Tanjong Chat last night. Also present were PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar and PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun. Rafizi expressed his hope that his opponents would not "throw stones and hide their hands" by attacking him and then reporting him to the disciplinary board when he responds, as if they had done nothing wrong. "The process is straightforward. If anyone feels that a candidate has violated party protocols, they can lodge a complaint, and the disciplinary board can then conduct a fair investigation. "As for me, if there is a desire to debate and determine who is better, I will highlight my opponent's weaknesses, and you can do the same. I don't go around making complaints or reports," he said. Previously, the media reported that the PKR disciplinary board had reminded all candidates and their supporters not to tarnish the party's image and to refrain from personal attacks and baseless accusations during the final stage of the party elections. Its chairperson, Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew, said candidates should instead focus their campaigns on policy discussions and ideas. She said actions involving personal attacks, open conflict, and making derogatory public statements against party members are inappropriate, unacceptable, and would only harm party unity.

Policy plans intact even if I exit cabinet, says Rafizi
TEMERLOH: Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has defended his decision to resign from the cabinet if he fails to retain the PKR deputy presidency in the party elections later this month. Rafizi said such a move would not adversely affect current policies at his ministry nor disrupt the government's administration. "When I was first appointed as the Economy Minister, I stated that the planning and approval phase must be completed within the first two years, while the remaining three years would be focused on implementation. The ministry doesn't only oversee economic policy, but also addresses social, educational and other sectors," he told reporters after his Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi dalam Ujian Kuasa (HIRUK) roadshow at the Mentakab hall today. He said the ministry was currently finalising the framework for the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which is nearly complete and will be presented to the cabinet for approval next week. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to table the 13MP in Parliament in July. Rafizi likened the role of a minister to that of a company manager who is expected to plan and execute responsibilities with diligence. "When we move on to another job, we pass on the duties to our successor, who then continues with the existing policies. The 13MP involves input from all ministries, so there's no risk that a change in the Economy Minister would lead to changes in national policies," he said. He was responding to a question about whether his pledge to resign from cabinet — should he lose the deputy presidency — might jeopardise ongoing initiatives under his ministry. Meanwhile, Rafizi said that he was ready to accept any outcome from the party polls and has no issue stepping down should the result not go in his favour. On a separate matter, he said this month's PKR party elections were part of early preparations for the 16th general election. "We must choose our candidates wisely, as the next general election will be an uphill battle. Previously, we entered the fray as a party seeking to form the government. This time, we are already in government, and public expectations will be different," he said.

[UPDATED] Rafizi ready for debate with Nurul Izzah as PKR deputy president contest heats up
TEMERLOH: Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has expressed his readiness to engage in an open debate with Nurul Izzah Anwar as they vie for the deputy presidency in the upcoming PKR party elections later this month. Rafizi, who is seeking to defend his position as deputy president, said he welcomed the suggestion from grassroots members for a face-to-face debate with his fellow contender – provided it is organised by an independent third party. "During the previous party election, it was customary for candidates vying for the deputy presidency, including Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (the 2022 contender), to participate in debates. Such discussions also help defuse tensions during the campaign period. "PKR is a party that embraces a new political culture. As we enter the final week before the election, grassroots members have proposed a debate with Nurul Izzah, and I am open to the idea," he told reporters after his Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi dalam Ujian Kuasa (HIRUK) roadshow at the Mentakab Hall today. Rafizi said he would leave the matter to potential organisers, typically media outlets, to propose a suitable date and venue. "From past experience, interested parties will usually step forward to organise such debates, seek approval from both candidates, and coordinate the scheduling. "So far, no one has approached me. It wouldn't be appropriate for me to go knocking on their doors, so it's best if the media takes the lead in organising the event," he added. Earlier in his speech, Rafizi reiterated that since PKR was a party that championed reform, he was fully prepared to engage in a constructive debate with Nurul Izzah in their contest for the deputy presidency. "I've debated with KJ (Khairy Jamaluddin) and with the Bachok member of parliament (Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman). Debates help focus attention on core issues rather than veering into unrelated topics," he said. Rafizi is set to face a direct challenge from long-time ally Nurul Izzah during the party elections on May 23.
