Iraq approves new projects amid reconstruction plans
Baghdad ( – The Higher Committee for Reconstruction and Investment in Iraq has authorized new investment projects in key economic areas such as housing, energy, oil, and pharmaceuticals.
The step took place during a committee's meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The meeting addressed issues related to investments as well as the government's determination to expedite reconstruction efforts and local industry growth.
The Iraqi Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities attended the meeting to discuss initiatives aimed at renovating cultural and heritage sites managed by the ministry.
As part of the Iraqi government's objective to localize the pharmaceutical industry, the committee approved the construction of a new pharmaceutical facility in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
The committee, during a discussion with the governor of Nineveh, approved additional commercial and residential developments in the northern Iraqi province.
In the energy sector, the director of Iraq's General Company for Electricity Transmission revealed plans to ensure a consistent power supply to new housing developments in Baghdad and neighboring provinces.
The discussions addressed the adoption of an economically effective strategy to improve electricity distribution and assure a continuous supply.
