Bengaluru: One App For All Your Rides? Namma Metro QR Tickets Go Live On 12 Platforms

Last Updated: Namma Metro now lets you book QR tickets through apps like Redbus, Rapido, and more via ONDC. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has rolled out QR-code based ticket booking across 12 digital platforms. This upgrade comes through a partnership with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), allowing commuters to buy metro tickets using a wider range of travel apps. Until now, passengers could book tickets through the Namma Metro app, Paytm, or the official WhatsApp chatbot. But from now on, they'll also be able to use apps like EaseMyTrip, Highway Delite, Miles & Kilometres (via Telegram), Namma Yatri, OneTicket, Rapido, Redbus, Tummoc, and Yatri–City Travel Guide. Sri Maheshwar Rao, Managing Director of BMRCL, shared that this move is a major milestone in building a seamless, multimodal transport system. With auto-rickshaw and cab services already linked to ONDC since 2023, the addition of metro ticketing completes the bigger picture. As per Hindustan Times, he said, 'This is a huge step forward for smart travel. Now, people can plan their journey from doorstep to destination using just one app—saving both time and effort." BMRCL's goal is to create a well-connected transport system that combines first-, middle-, and last-mile options. With this QR-based ticketing system, commuters don't need to hop between apps or stand in long queues anymore. Everything is now just a few taps away. This initiative reflects BMRCL's larger goal: building an inclusive and tech-friendly travel experience for everyone in Bengaluru. By embracing open digital networks, the metro is becoming more accessible, user-friendly, and ready for the future. view comments First Published: July 10, 2025, 08:02 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Namma Metro tickets now available on 9 more apps

In a push towards enhancing digital access and seamless travel, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has enabled QR ticketing through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), where metro tickets will be available on nine apps. This move allows Namma Metro commuters to purchase tickets via popular consumer-facing apps, according to BMRCL. The newly integrated apps are EaseMyTrip, Highway Delite, Miles & Kilometres (via Telegram), Namma Yatri, OneTicket, Rapido, Redbus, Tummoc, and Yatri – City Travel Guide. These are in addition to the existing platforms — Namma Metro mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot (8105556677), and the Paytm app. BMRCL Managing Director M. Maheshwar Rao said, 'This expansion is part of our larger vision to integrate first, middle, and last-mile connectivity into a unified digital ecosystem. With cab and auto services already available on ONDC since 2023, the addition of metro ticketing completes a vital link in the multi-modal transport chain. Now, commuters can plan and book their entire journey from doorstep to destination through a single mobile app, saving both time and effort.' He highlighted that the adoption of open network standards marks a strategic shift towards a more inclusive and tech-driven future for Bengaluru's urban mobility. It also aims to enhance operational efficiency and commuter convenience. With over 8.5 lakh daily riders on weekdays, this initiative marks a crucial step in delivering a commuter-centric, app-integrated travel experience. The move not only empowers passengers with more ticketing options but also reinforces BMRCL's commitment to digital transformation and sustainability in public transport.

Mumbai Metro's Line 3 now on Open Network for Digital Commerce; QR-based tickets to be available across apps

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) announced on Wednesday that Metro Line 3 will be connected to the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), enabling passengers to book QR-based tickets through multiple consumer apps to travel on the fully underground Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ corridor. This move eliminates the need for separate metro ticketing apps or standing in long queues at ticket counters. Passengers can now use widely available platforms such as EaseMyTrip, RedBus, OneTicket, Tummoc, Yatri-City Travel Guide, Highway Delite, and even Telegram-based Miles & Kilometres to purchase tickets. The OneTicket app also allows seamless travel across Metro Lines 1, 2A, 7 and now 3, enabling end-to-end metro journeys within Mumbai through a single digital interface. 'Integration of Metro Line 3 with the ONDC platform is a landmark step toward building a truly interoperable and inclusive urban mobility ecosystem. By enabling QR-based ticketing through multiple trusted apps, we are not only enhancing commuter convenience but also contributing to the broader vision of a digitally connected India,' said Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director, MMRCL, in a statement. Officials said this is part of a broader effort to make Mumbai's metro system more accessible and technology-friendly as it scales up to handle millions of daily commuters across the city. 'The ONDC network, backed by the Government of India, is designed to facilitate open and inclusive digital commerce by allowing various service providers to operate on a shared infrastructure. By joining this network, Metro Line-3 becomes the first fully underground metro corridor in the country to embrace this interoperable ticketing model,' said an MMRCL spokesperson. The line is expected to see partial commissioning soon with full operations anticipated in phases.
