Sinkhole that opened on Bishop Auckland road filled in after residents left concerned
A growing sinkhole that closed a busy junction in Bishop Auckland has been filled in.
Durham Council confirmed the corner of Edward Street and Gibbon Street has been made safe after urgent repairs.
As reported on July 3, residents said the sinkhole had been steadily expanding for more than a week and a half, prompting safety concerns.

Anthea Smith, the council's highway services manager, said: 'We have repaired the sinkhole and made the area safe.
"We would like to thank drivers and nearby residents for their patience while this work was carried out.'

What began as a small hole marked with a single cone quickly worsened, with land slumping inward.
Safety barriers were installed and investigations launched to work out what had happened.
