Five remanded two days over football match brawl
TELUK INTAN: Five men arrested over a brawl during a football match have been remanded for two days. The suspects, aged between 20 and 30, were brought to the Magistrate's Court this morning where magistrate Naidatul Athirah Azman issued the remand order. The remand is set to end tomorrow. They were escorted by police officers into the courtroom around 9am and left 45 minutes later. The remand was requested to facilitate investigations under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting. The offence carries a maximum jail term of two years, a fine, or both upon conviction. The five men were arrested yesterday afternoon, bringing the total number of suspects arrested for the riot to 12. Seven other men, aged 21 to 32, were previously arrested last Friday and released on police bail yesterday after their three-day remand period ended. Hilir Perak police chief Assistant Commissioner Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said investigation papers on the seven men would be sent to the Attorney General's Department soon for further instructions. He added that the five suspects remanded today were players in the match. The riot took place during the second half of the Hilir Perak Integrity League 2025 match between Padang Tembak FC and Jenderata FC last Thursday evening. The commotion started after a Padang Tembak FC player made a rough tackle on a Jenderata FC player, which led to a fight between players from both teams.
