Caitlin Clark stalker gets maximum prison sentence for stalking
Lewis, 55, received the maximum sentence for the felony charge, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office told The Indianapolis Star. He also has a no-contact order with Clark for the duration of the sentence and has agreed to stay away from Gainbridge Fieldhouse and all Indiana Fever events, according to court records. CAITLIN CLARK: Rookie card sells for $660,000, breaking women's sports card record Clark told police in an interview last January that "she has been very fearful since learning of the messages and that she has altered her public appearances and patterns of movement due to fear for her safety," according to the charging affidavit. "Clark stated that she has become very concerned for her safety after learning that Lewis was in Indianapolis. Clark also stated that she doesn't know Lewis and has never responded to any of his messages or posts." An arrest affidavit for the case detailed more than 15 messages sent from Lewis' X account to Clark, and many of the messages were sexually explicit or violent. Police discovered Lewis' messages in January had come from IP addresses at a Hilton Garden Inn near Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, as well as the downtown Indianapolis Public Library. Lewis' presence in Indianapolis was concerning as he is Denton, Texas, resident, according to the affidavit. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department made contact with Lewis on Jan. 8 at his hotel room concerning the messages, according to police documents. Lewis said the posts that were threatening in nature were not from him and acknowledged, "this is just an imaginary relationship." Despite the initial encounter with law enforcement, the inappropriate messages from Lewis to Clark continued. The Marion County Prosecutors office announced Lewis' arrest on Jan. 13. "No matter how prominent a figure you are, this case shows that online harassment can quickly escalate to actual threats of physical violence," Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears said in a statement issued last January. "It takes a lot of courage for women to come forward in these cases, which is why many don't. In doing so, the victim is setting an example for all women who deserve to live and work in Indy without the threat of sexual violence." Clark has missed 13 games this season and is currently out with a right groin injury. The Fever (14-12) host the Mercury at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday, July 30.

‘Insult to taxpayers' as council blows £15m on hotel that might never open
A council has been accused of insulting taxpayers by blowing £15m on a hotel that may never open. Work stopped on Peterborough's Hilton Garden Inn on the banks of the River Nene more than two years ago, and the project remains only half-built, with residents saying it has become a home for pigeons. The failed 160-bed project was funded via a multi-million pound loan from the city council to developers in 2017. It was planned to open in July 2019, but after construction slumped during the pandemic and the developers fell into administration, the hotel was left only partially-built. One Peterborough resident told The Telegraph: 'The building is still not finished and is degrading rapidly inside as it is not watertight. The only residents are hundreds of pigeons. It's a total disaster.' Another posted on social media to blast the scheme as an 'embarrassing eyesore and an insult to the taxpayers of Peterborough'. Inexplicably, the nine-storey Hilton hotel has multiple five-star reviews on Google from non-existent guests, with one praising 'very welcoming staff and really nice food'. Accountancy firm EY published an audit of the council's accounts last week, revealing there was a 'significant risk' that the value of the hotel would be less than the £15m spent by the council. The report said an 'expected credit loss' was currently under consideration. The council, which was led by the Conservatives in 2017 but now run by a Labour minority, is understood to have financed its loan by borrowing from a government former public works loan board (PWLB). Peterborough's white elephant hotel is in similar vein to a host of council-funded schemes across the country, where local authorities have ploughed millions into failed developments.

Take a look at the history, photos of the King Edward Hotel, now Hilton Garden Inn in Jackson
The Hilton Garden Inn in Downtown Jackson may look like an ordinary hotel from the outside, but the building holds more than a century of history within its walls. The current 12-story building was built in 1923 on the former site of the Edwards House, a hotel built by Major R.O. Edwards after the Civil War. The hotel was "Edwards Hotel" for the first few decades, adding "King" and dropping the "s" in 1954 when wealthy businessman R.E. "Dumas" Milner bought the building. Beyond a place for travelers to stay, the King Edward Hotel housed Okeh Records. The Mississippi Sheiks, Robert Stackhouse, Robert Nighthawk and Jimmie Rogers were some of the artists who played at the hotel. After years of declining business, the King Edward Hotel shut its doors in 1967. Through nearly four decades of changing hands and sitting unoccupied, the hotel went from downtown fixture to eyesore. Years of neglect left the building littered with trash and covered with weeds. Debris from the crumbling structure and broken windows buried the intricate design details inside. In 2003, a fire broke out on the second story, pushing the once luxurious building into further disrepair. In 2006, former New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister partnered with Watkins Partners and Historic Restoration Inc. to begin repairs. For the next three years, the hotel, which was to reopen as a Hilton Garden Inn, came back to life as construction workers used photos to bring the building back to its original 1920s glory blended with some modern touches. Original details like the lobby's grand staircase were uncovered and restored. The renovation cost a total of $90 million. On Dec. 17, 2009, Then-Jackson Mayor Harvey Johnson cut the ribbon on the new the Hilton Garden Inn, reopening the doors on the historic building. Got a news tip?
