Operation Shield: Ludhiana to conduct 15-minute blackout security drill tonight
Ludhiana's district administration is set to conduct a blackout mock drill tonight, from 8:00 PM to 8:15 PM, as part of Operation Shield to bolster emergency preparedness LUDHIANA: As part of Operation Shield, an initiative to enhance emergency preparedness, the district administration of Ludhiana will conduct a complete blackout mock drill tonight from 8:00 PM to 8:15 PM. As per an official statement by District Administratiion "The blackout mock drill will cover the following areas: Bhanohar, Hasanpur, Baddowal, Rurka, Jamgpur, Khadoor, Haveli, Adda City Dakha, Ajitsar, Issewal, Gahour, Detwal, Kailpur, Baraich, Madiani, MorKarima, Boothgarh, and the Baddowal cantonment area feeder from 66kV Rajguru Nagar". "Besides, 66kV feeder Dholewal Chowk to Vishwakarma Chowk, 11kv Guru Naanak Feeder, 11kv Vishwakarma feeder, 11kv Ramgarhiya Feeder, 11kv Gobindpura Feeder, Gurdwara Pheruman, Manju Cinema road, Ahaluwalia Gali, Shah Talai Temple, Bombay Metals, Ghati Shah Mills, Moongphali Mandi, Santpura Mandi, Bhagwan Nagar, Guru Arjun Nagar Dev, Rama Charitable, Dada Motors, Achar Wali Gali, Guru Gobind Singh Tower, Gandhi Nagar, Shamsham Ghar road, MES complex, Prabhat Nagar, Telephone Exchange and others". The statement suggested that the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) will temporarily cut the power supply to the designated areas just before 8:00 PM and restore it after the 15-minute drill concludes at 8:15 PM. Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain emphasized the importance of this exercise in strengthening the district's preparedness for emergencies. He also requested Ludhiana residents to voluntarily participate by switching off all lights during the drill from 8:00 PM to 8:15 PM tonight.

This exercise will involve 18 villages and the Rajguru Nagar area of the district. The PSPCL will temporarily cut power supply to the designated areas before 8.00 pm and restore it after the drill. The drill will cover the following areas: Bhanohar, Hasanpur, Baddowal, Rurka, jangpur, Khadoor, Haveli, Adda City Dakha, Ajitsar, Issewal, Gahour, Detwal, Kailpur, Baraich, Madiani, Mor Karima, Boothgarh and the Baddowal cantonment area feeder from 66kV Rajguru Nagar. Deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain emphasised the importance of this exercise in strengthening the district's preparedness for emergencies. He also requested residents to voluntarily participate by switching off all lights during the drill. 'This collaborative effort will help evaluate the district's preparedness and improve coordination among agencies,' he added.

Apply through ‘Suvidha' portal to get poll-related permissions: Ludhiana DC Jain
Ahead of the Ludhiana west bypoll, district election officer-cum- deputy commissioner, Himanshu Jain, directed on Wednesday that all political hoardings, flexes must carry the names of the publisher and printer. Citing the latest guidelines regarding the installation of election-related hoardings on sites controlled/regulated by local self-government/municipal authorities, Jain said that ECI had mandated clear identification of printers and publishers on all printed election-related material including hoardings. He said that as per section 127 A of the R P Act 1951, printing or publishing of election pamphlets/posters without bearing the name and address of the printer and publisher on the face of these materials is mandatory. Jain urged all the authorities to ensure strict compliance with the said guidelines. Deputy commissioner (DC) Himanshu Jain further directed all political parties to apply through the 'Suvidha' online portal for getting permission for all the poll-related activities, including meetings and rallies for the Ludhiana West byelection. Jain said that 'Suvidha' portal was a single-window clearance for getting all the requisite permissions from the election authorities. He emphasised that no religious place should be used for campaigning,and political parties must avoid any campaign which would incite hatred. The DC said that venue and time of political rallies and processions must be informed well in advance to avoid any mismanagement. The district election officer assured that the administration is committed to ensuring free, fair, and peaceful election. 1 nomination filed ahead of bypoll Ludhiana On the third day of nominations for the Ludhiana west seat of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, one candidate has filed his nomination papers. Punjab's chief electoral officer, Sibin C, informed that an independent candidate, Baldev Raj Katna (Debi), submitted his nomination for the 64-Ludhiana West seat. The last date for filing nominations is June 2, and the scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on June 3. The final date for withdrawal of nominations is June 5, 2025. Voting will take place on June 19, and the results will be declared on June 23, 2025, after the counting of votes.

Ludhiana West bypoll: Campaign clearance via Suvidha portal.
Ludhiana: District election officer and deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain on Wednesday directed all political parties to apply for permission for poll-related activities, including rallies and meetings for the Ludhiana West byelection, exclusively through the Election Commission 's 'Suvidha' portal. In an official statement, the district administration described the Suvidha portal as a single-window system designed to streamline approvals for campaign events, vehicle use, loudspeakers and other election-related activities. Jain stressed that parties must strictly adhere to the model code of conduct and avoid any speeches or actions that incite hatred or communal tension. He warned against the use of religious places for campaign purposes and said the timing and venue of rallies must be communicated well in advance to avoid public inconvenience. "The administration is fully committed to ensuring a free, fair and peaceful by-election," Jain said. Ludhiana West bypoll: Political hoardings must display names of publishers and printers.
Ludhiana: All political hoardings, posters and flex banners must clearly display the names and addresses of their printers and publishers, District election officer Himanshu Jain said on Wednesday, citing the Election Commission's latest enforcement guidelines. Jain said the directive — issued under Section 127A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 — applies to all printed election materials, including those installed at locations regulated by local government or municipal bodies. "This rule is not optional," Jain said. "To ensure transparency and accountability in the election process, the law mandates that the name and address of the printer and publisher must appear on the face of all election-related materials. " He urged all political parties, candidates and printing press owners to strictly comply with the guidelines ahead of the Ludhiana West byelection campaign.
