Pas to name PM candidate after PN secures mandate
KANGAR: Pas will only name its candidate for prime minister once Perikatan Nasional (PN) is given the mandate to form the government, said the party's spiritual leader, Datuk Hashim Jasin. Hashim said there was no urgency to put forward a "poster boy" before the coalition wins power, either in the near future or after the 16th General Election (GE16). "For now, we are not naming anyone. Once we have the mandate, we will choose a leader who can carry out the responsibility," he said. Hashim said that Pas had no shortage of qualified leaders to take on the role, and that both professionals and religious scholars were capable of leading the country, Utusan Malaysia reported. Citing Kelantan as an example, he said the appointment of the late Tan Sri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat in 1990 showed that leadership could emerge from within once power was secured. "People doubted Nik Aziz when we first took over Kelantan, but he led the state government for over 22 years, bringing stability, good governance and meaningful reforms guided by Islamic values," he said. Hashim added that the same approach would apply if PN were to lead the federal government. "We may not have a visible candidate now, but if given power, we will present someone suitable and govern better than the current administration," he said. Hashim's remarks followed criticism of the opposition bloc after last weekend's "Himpunan Turun Anwar" rally, where the public was urged to reject Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership. The opposition has since been challenged to name an alternative candidate if it truly intends to push Anwar out. Anwar, responding to the rally, said the opposition should submit a vote of no confidence in the Dewan Rakyat instead of rallying in the streets. Anwar added that opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin had repeatedly raised the matter, but no formal action had followed.

[Watch] Authorities Order Stage Removal At Himpunan Turun Anwar, Protesters Stage Symbolic Whipping Of PM's Effigy
Subscribe to our FREE Organisers of an opposition rally were forced to dismantle their main stage at Dataran Merdeka earlier today (26 July) after authorities cited permit violations and safety concerns. Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) instructed organisers of the rally to remove the stage hours before the 'Himpunan Turun Anwar' rally by Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition was scheduled to begin. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the organisers had not obtained proper authorisation to build the stage and failed to inform police about who would be using it. 'The initial agreement between police and organisers was to use two four-wheel drive vehicles as a platform,' he said. PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden expressed frustration over what he called conflicting instructions from authorities. Writing on 'When we finished setting up, they told us to take it down. Yesterday they said one thing, this morning they said another. Is this planned provocation?' he questioned. Rally Continues Despite Setback Despite the stage controversy, the demonstration proceeded as planned with protesters converging at Dataran Merdeka from multiple starting points, including a group that marched from Masjid Jamek. Rally leaders announced that participants would perform their afternoon prayers at the main gathering point while waiting for others to arrive from different locations. At Central Market, another group of protesters held prayers using cloth banners as makeshift prayer mats before beginning their march at 2 pm. In one interesting scene, protesters gathered around an effigy covered with a white cloth and Anwar's face plastered on it. A protester whipped it with a rotan on the 'butt', drawing cheers from the surrounding crowd. Depa sebat bontot anwar hahahahahahahahahahah — Glasgow smile (@KLHC88) Business Continues As Normal The large gathering did not significantly disrupt commercial activities in the area. Shopping centres, including Sogo, Pertama Complex and Campbell Complex, remained open to the public. While Sogo's main entrance was closed, shoppers could still enter through side doors. Small vendors took advantage of the crowd, setting up stalls along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman to sell drinks, 'Turun Anwar' T-shirts and noise-makers to rally participants. As of noon, approximately 2,000 protesters were present at Dataran Merdeka, marking a notable difference from the atmosphere during previous large-scale political demonstrations in the capital. Walaupun kat social berdegar degar semangat tapi mungkin deep down orang rasa Anwar takde la teruk gila untuk diorang turun ke jalan. Sebab aku pun fikir benda yang sama. 😂 — FÈRD 🇲🇾🇵🇸 (@dauspozi) Parts of this story have been sourced from Share your thoughts with us via TRP's . Businesses carry on as thousands gather around Sogo
The 'Himpunan Turun Anwar' rally organised by the Perikatan Nasional opposition coalition kicks off in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon. Thousands of protesters, who are expected to gather at four designated meeting points in the city centre since morning, will march towards the iconic Dataran Merdeka to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Police estimate a crowd of between 10,000 and 15,000 participants at its peak, but opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin had claimed they could attract up to a million protesters who are unhappy with the government. Among the top opposition leaders expected to show up and give speeches during the protest are former prime ministers Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin, and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang. Authorities have given their commitment to facilitate the event, including deploying extra personnel to ensure safety and uninterrupted public transportation operations. The Malaysiakini team, comprising reporters Hariz Mohd, Qistina Nadia Dzulqarnain, B Nantha Kumar, Tan Fu Qi, Annessa Tan, and Firdaus Hanafiah, reports from the ground.

July 26 rally to highlight people's economic hardship, says Perikatan
PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional fully supports the 'Himpunan Turun Anwar' rally, saying it is meant to free the rakyat from economic hardships and the current administration's tyranny. 'The peaceful rally is a manifestation of the people's desire to bring about true change for the peace and prosperity of the nation,' said Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Mohamed Azmin Ali in a statement on Friday (July 25). The rally is scheduled to take place on Saturday (July 26), with participants expected to gather at five locations – Masjid Negara, Pasar Seni, Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad, Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru, and the Sogo shopping mall – before marching to Dataran Merdeka. Azmin said the matter of the rally was discussed at a meeting held by the opposition coalition's supreme council on Friday evening, which was attended by all member parties. 'Among matters that were given attention were the preparations for the Sabah state election, the formation of a unified opposition alliance and the 'Turun Anwar' rally,' Azmin said. He added that Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in his speech, touched on various current national issues, including the country's political stability, the judiciary's independence and the cost of living that has been continuously burdening the rakyat. 'The supreme council has formed a main committee for the Sabah state election to identify seats to be contested by Perikatan Nasional, form strategies in each constituency, and come up with a manifesto for the people of Sabah. 'The council also studied the formation of the unified opposition alliance presented by Muhyiddin, which aims to forge an understanding between all political parties outside the government bloc,' Azmin said.
