Nation's No. 1 running back announces commitment date

An elite running back recruit and Georgia Bulldogs recruiting target has announced his commitment date. Five-star RB prospect Savion Hiter will be committing on Aug. 19, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals. Hiter will choose among Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and Tennessee. Hiter is a five-star prospect from the class of 2026. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound freshman plays high school football and track and field for Louisa County High School in Mineral, Virginia. Hiter made the Under-Armour All-American roster, alongside elite recruits such as Georgia freshmen defensive tackle Elijah Griffin and offensive tackle Juan Gaston, as well as Georgia commits Kaiden Prothro (five-star tight end) and Zech Fort (four-star safety). On 247Sports' analysis on Hiter, Andrew Ivins compared Hiter to former North Carolina RB Omarion Hampton. Hiter has no visits scheduled anymore. He took official visits with Ohio State (May 30), Georgia (June 6), Michigan (June 13), and Tennessee (June 20). 247Sports has not released a Crystal Ball prediction for him yet. Georgia currently has the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, with 30 total commits, including two five-stars and 21 four-stars. The Bulldogs earned a commitment from four-star running back Jae Lamar on June 21 already, but Georgia would like to earn multiple running back commits. In the 2025 cycle, the Bulldogs lost Ousmane Kromah on the first day of the early signing period when he flipped to Florida State. Hiter is the nation's No. 1 running back and No. 9 overall prospect from the class of 2026. He'd be the highest ranked commit in Georgia's class, should he choose to play for the Bulldogs. Hiter is the top ranked recruit in Virginia. If Georgia misses out on the five-star RB, then the Bulldogs may look to flip a four-star Wisconsin RB commit.

5-star 2026 Ohio State running back target Savion Hiter announces commitment date

As it stands right now, the Ohio State football team has put together a very good recruiting class for the 2026 cycle, but if we're being honest, it's a little behind where we've seen in past years, especially considering the Buckeyes are coming off a College Football Playoff national championship. And while many programs would love to have the class Ohio State has, there have been some pretty big misses as the program tries to figure out how name, image and likeness, and the House Settlement leading to direct revenue payments will work. The perception is that the Buckeyes have been conservative compared to other teams, and that has seemingly led to some misses on the high-priority targets. But there's another big one in play coming up with five-star running back Savion Hiter, who just announced his commitment date. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Hiter is ranked as the No. 1 running back and ninth overall prospect in the class. He will be making his college choice on August 19, according to an announcement on "X," and he'll be choosing among a final four of Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, and Tennessee. To be fair, OSU doesn't seem to have the momentum in this race -- though that hasn't seemed to matter this year. Despite being on campus multiple times, the buzz is that it'll come down to Michigan and Tennessee, both of whom have been much more aggressive with NIL money than Ohio State has been. To date, the Buckeyes have just one running back commitment in the class of 2026, three-star Ohio product Favour Akih. It's beginning to look like he'll be the lone back in this class unless there's a surprise with Hiter, or OSU pivots and tries to find a diamond in the rough to round out the class. Top Michigan Wolverines 2026 target, five-star Savion Hiter, sets commitment date

Michigan football has been on fire when it comes to assembling the 2026 recruiting class, but the biggest fish is still out to sea. The Wolverines have made no secret that there's one target they covet more than any other, and that's Mineral (Va.) Louisa County five-star running back Savion Hiter. Hiter has appeared to be a Michigan lean, but Tennessee, in particular, has come on strong in recent months. Ohio State and Georgia also remain in the picture. It's been something of a wait, as Hiter didn't even have a commitment date. But now we know when he'll make a decision, as he announced, via Hayes Fawcett, that he'll be making his college choice on August 19. The Wolverines do have one running back committed in Columbus (Ohio) St. Francis de Sales three-star Jonathan Brown, who self-admittedly noted that he's a bit of a project. Hiter is the type who can come in and make an instant impact, even as a true freshman. Here's his scouting report via 247Sports: Juiced-up running back with star potential for a College Football Playoff contender given the mix of his burst, power, agility, balance and vision. Has dominated the combine setting (1.52 10-yard split, 4.12 shuttle, 36-inch vertical jump) and is equipped with ready-to-play mass as he's already tipping the scales at 200 pounds. Effective as both an inside and outside runner as he's quick to chart a course and charge forward. Fast feet allow him to side-step trouble as he frequently dances around would-be tacklers in the backfield and turns negative plays into positive plays. Core strength and a lower pad level routinely negate arm tackles while full-speed cuts make it even harder for defenders to get him on the ground, especially when he breaks through the first wave of obstacles. Hasn't caught a ton of passes at the prep level, but has proven to be a tricky cover at offseason camps and looks to have true three-down potential as his physicality will only continue to give him an advantage in pass protection. Overall, should be viewed as a gifted ball carrier that can be a multi-year impact player on Saturdays and provide valuable minutes as early as Year 1. Must avoid setbacks and remain hungry, but profiles as a future NFL Draft pick with his size, testing and feel for the position. Hiter is rated as the No. 9 player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite, regardless of position. He's made it to Ann Arbor multiple times and has a strong relationship with running backs coach Tony Alford. The Vols remain the primary threat.

Savion Hiter dons Michigan uniform with Bryce Underwood in stunning recruiting photo shoot

Savion Hiter dons Michigan uniform with Bryce Underwood in stunning recruiting photo shoot Michigan football rolled out the maize and blue carpet for prospects who made their way to Ann Arbor this past weekend, especially with the Wolverines hosting arguably their top overall target. It hasn't exactly been a secret that the run-first Wolverines strongly covet 2026 Mineral (Va.) Louisa County five-star running back Savion Hiter, who has reciprocated the efforts ever since position coach Tony Alford jumped ship from Ohio State to the maize and blue. Hiter has been on campus several times, but this weekend marked his pivotal official visit, where Michigan would be able to pull no punches, showing him everything he needs to know should he decide to wear a winged helmet. Michigan went so far with the photo shoot it does with all the recruits as bringing in the 2025 No. 1 overall recruit, five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, to pose with Hiter, handing the ball off to him as would be the case if Hiter was to sign with the Wolverines. They also made the video that emulates what would be posted by the team on signing day if he's to enter the fray. Hiter posted both on Monday. Hiter is rated the No. 17 overall prospect, regardless of position, by the 247Sports Composite. He's also strongly considering Tennessee, Ohio State, and Georgia. Ann Arbor was his penultimate visit, with a trip to Knoxville taking place this upcoming weekend. The Vols are seen as the primary competition for Hiter's services.

Michigan football in hot pursuit of 5-star RB Savion Hiter in official visit this weekend

Michigan football in hot pursuit of 5-star RB Savion Hiter in official visit this weekend Michigan football recruiting is in full swing, with two official visit weekends down and two more coming up. The Wolverines have hosted some top targets, including five-stars Felix Ojo and Trenton Henderson, but this upcoming weekend will see the maize and blue bring in arguably its top overall target in the 2026 cycle. The maize and blue have made no bones about Mineral (Va.) Louisa County five-star running back Savion Hiter being near or atop their board. After taking off much of the month of May from a recruiting perspective, rebuilding momentum with Hiter is key, and soon, the Wolverines will have that opportunity. Hiter set to visit Ann Arbor Hiter has been on campus before, including during the season when he visited for the Oregon game in November 2024. Now, the five-star is set to make his way back to Ann Arbor for his official visit this weekend. Rated the No. 17 player in the country, regardless of position, Hiter is also the top-rated running back in the 2026 class. He's being recruited by Michigan running backs coach Tony Alford, who started developing their relationship when he was at Ohio State. That carried over to the Wolverines once he defected from the Buckeyes last spring. Outlook and scouting report Michigan appears to be battling Tennessee, Ohio State, and Georgia for Hiter's services. The Vols and Buckeyes both made moves while the Wolverines self-imposed recruiting restrictions in May. It's likely that Michigan still leads, but it has more work cut out for it than it had before. 247Sports' Andrew Ivins has the evaluation, comparing him to Omarion Hampton -- who was last coached by new maize and blue offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey during his time at North Carolina: Juiced-up running back with star potential for a College Football Playoff contender given the mix of his burst, power, agility, balance and vision. Hiter has visited Ohio State and Georgia officially thus far, with Michigan up this weekend and Tennessee next. He has no predictions in as of yet, but Ohio State has the current On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lead, despite most insiders being cautiously optimistic that the Wolverines are in the pole position. The maize and blue have been a run-first team in recent memory, and though there will be more of an onus on the pass game, Lindsey has shown during his time with the Tar Heels that he prefers balance, with prolific rushing to go along with a downfield aerial attack.
