In a day, 218 challans issue in Dharamshala for illegal parking
Dharamshala , In a major crackdown on unruly parking, Kangra District Police issued 218 challans for illegal parking across the district in a day, police said on Thursday. In a day, 218 challans issue in Dharamshala for illegal parking During the 24-hour drive that ended on Wednesday, a large majority of vehicle fined included those parked along the roads, especially in high-traffic areas. The police have raised concerns that haphazard roadside parking is not only disrupting smooth traffic flow but also posing serious safety risks to pedestrians and motorists alike. The situation is particularly alarming in McLeodganj, a key tourist hub, where narrow roads and heavy footfall already strain the local traffic system. "Disorderly roadside parking is a punishable offence under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988," the police said, adding that surveillance through Intelligent Traffic Management System has been intensified and offenders are now being penalized with challans, vehicle seizure, and other legal actions. Additional Superintendent of Police Kangra Hitesh Lakhanpal said, "Under the Safe City initiative of the Smart City Project, we have installed six ITMS units in Dharamshala to monitor traffic violations round-the-clock." "More systems are in the pipeline, and traffic lights have already been set up in McLeodganj, with more intersections identified for signalization and road widening", he added. However, the enforcement drive has also drawn criticism from citizens, who argue that the lack of adequate parking facilities has left them with no choice. "The police should focus on vehicles that are abandoned or permanently parked for weeks with tarpaulins. Regular visitors and shopkeepers should not be unnecessarily penalized," said a local businessman Sansar Chand. Retired administrative officer Lalit Kumar said that "When the administration permits commercial establishments in residential areas without providing parking infrastructure, roadside parking becomes inevitable. Penalizing people under such circumstances is unjust." The police have urged citizens to strictly follow traffic rules, cooperate with enforcement efforts, and use only designated parking areas for their vehicles to help maintain order and safety on the roads. Himachal: Missing Israeli trekker traced
Dharamshala, June 15 (UNI) An Israeli national, who went for a trek to Triund in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh and was missing since June six, was traced on Sunday from Chattri village forests with the help of local people, police said here. Kangra District Additional Superintendent of Police Hitesh Lakhanpal told UNI this evening that Samuel Vengrinovich, in his mid 30s, set out for a trek on June six with a group of trekkers in Triund area of Dharamshala. ASP said that when he did not return by nightfall, an intensive search was carried out, however, after failing to locate him, his friend Ediblam, alerted the McLeodganj police on Monday last. He said that a group of five tourists had come to Himachal Pradesh for a trip, but Samuel was separated during the trek in the hills of Triund and they had not heard from him since then. Following the missing report, joint search teams of Kangra police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) launched extensive operations in snow bound areas but could not trace him. The search and combing operation in Triund, Indrahar Pass, Jot, and other nearby remote areas did not yield any results. Today, Samuel was found shouting in the Chattri village forest, which was heard by local youths who rushed to the forest and found him with a fractured leg. The villagers picked him up and informed the police. He was provided food by the villagers as he was there without food for the last 10 days and had been eating grass and the forest fruits to sustain himself, police said. Later, Samuel was admitted to Tanda Medical College for leg fracture. He told police that he had lost the track and reached Chattri Forest far away from his main track where he had and his leg was fractured. Some local guys were moving in the forest area who heard his cries and came for his rescue. The authorities have informed the Israeli Embassy in Delhi about his trace. UNI AR SS
