Hockey India and TN government sign MoU, unveil official logo of FIH Men's Junior World Cup 2025
Hockey India and the Government of Tamil Nadu on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and unveiled the official logo for the FIH Hockey Men's Junior World Cup 2025 to be held in the State. The 14th edition of the international hockey tournament will be held in Chennai and Madurai from November 28 to December 10 and will see the number of participating teams rise from 16 to 24. Each city will host 12 teams during the initial phase of the tournament before the bandwagon shifts to the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in the capital for the semifinal and the final. Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister, Udhayinidhi Stalin, announced that the State government has sanctioned Rs. 65 crore for the conduct of the tournament. 'Chennai and Madurai will be the proud hosts for this grand event, showcasing our hockey legacy and rich infrastructure. Tamil Nadu has a proven track record of hosting major hockey events, dating back to the first edition of the Men's Champions Trophy in 1996,' the Deputy Chief Minister said. 'The sanctioned amount will be spent not only for the event but also for infrastructure development, including a new world-class synthetic turf in Madurai,' he added. 'Hosting back-to-back high-profile hockey events [Asian Champions Trophy in 2023 and the Junior World Cup in 2025] is a testament to the excellence in hosting and the support provided by the Tamil Nadu State government,' Hockey India Secretary General, Bhola Nath Singh, said. Hockey India Treasurer, Sekar J. Manoharan, lauded the decision to host the event in Madurai, providing people from the southern parts of the State an opportunity to witness top-class hockey in their backyard. 'The southern zone in Tamil Nadu is a hockey hub. Building a stadium there and hosting an event will be a huge success. The decision to build a viewing gallery along with the new pitch in Madurai will allow many people to come and watch the games and get inspired,' said Manoharan, the President of the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu. 'Our junior team has been doing well, and we hope to see the side finish on the podium in front of the home crowd,' he added. Manoharan also confirmed that all the clearances have been sought from the central government to allow Pakistan, which qualified for the tournament after finishing runner-up in the 2024 Junior Asia Cup, to participate in the under-21 event.

Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab register victories on Day 1 of Hockey India Masters Cup
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 18 (ANI): As the much-awaited 1st Hockey India Masters Cup 2025 kicks off in style here in Chennai, eight top teams from Odisha, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Kerala will vie for the top honours in the women's category. While in the men's category, 11 teams: Andhra Pradesh, Hockey Association of Odisha, Hockey Chandigarh, Hockey Haryana, Hockey Karnataka, Hockey Maharashtra, Hockey Punjab, Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu, Kerala Hockey, Le Puducherry Hockey and Manipur Hockey will compete with each other to lift the trophy on June 27, as per the release from Hockey India. On the opening day of the inaugural season, Hockey Karnataka and Hockey Maharashtra had a successful outing in the women's category. In the men's category, Hockey Punjab and Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu secured win in their respective matches. In the first match played today, Hockey Karnataka defeated Kerala Hockey 7-0, in the women's category. Sneha C (15', 17', 50') scored the historic first ever hattrick of the tournament for her side, taking a strong lead in the match. Captain KK Krithika (42', 55') also scored a brace whereas Usha Vinaykumar (22') and Josephine Lore Sequeira (50') also scored one goal each to secure the first victory in the tournament. In the other match, Hockey Punjab defeated Le Puducherry Hockey 3-2, in the men's category. Pavninder Singh (15'), Dharam Pal Singh (36') and Captain Ripudaman Kumar (42') scored for Hockey Punjab. On the other side, Delhiganesh (21') and N Kamala Kannan (47') scored one goal each for Le Puducherry Hockey. In the last match of the day, the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu defeated Kerala Hockey 8-0. Ramadoss V (14', 44') stood out as the top goal scorer as he scored a brace. Sudharsan S (28'), Thamaraikannan (32'), Captain Adam Antony Sinclair (34'), Vinoth Kumar AP (35'), Cedric Marcellin D Cruz (40') and Sathish Kumar (43') also scored one goal each for the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu. Also, the other match between Hockey Himachal and Hockey Maharashtra in the women's category was officially forfeited 5-0 in the favour of Hockey Maharashtra. (ANI)

Chennai to host Hockey India Masters Cup from June 18 to 27
The Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu (HUTN), at a press conference on Monday (June 16, 2025), officially announced that it will host the inaugural edition of the Hockey India Masters Cup for men (40+ age group) and women (35+ age group) from June 18 to 27 at the Mayor Radhakrishnan hockey stadium here. The event will feature twelve men's and eight women's teams. There will be group matches, followed by the knockout stage and the finals. The competition will feature former India players like Pritam Siwach, Sita Mehta, Suman Lata Chumbak, Nishi Chauhan (all playing for Haryana women), and Olympians like Sudha Chaudhari (Haryana women) and Adam Sinclair (Tamil Nadu men). The teams: Men: Pool-A: Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala; Pool-B: Odisha, Punjab, Puducherry; Pool-C: Chandigarh, Maharashtra, Manipur; Pool-D: Haryana, Karnataka, Tripura.
