Morganfield native coordinates event to remember passed loved ones for 13th consecutive year
MORGANFIELD, Ky. (WEHT) — For the 13th consecutive year, Morganfield native Spencer Foreman is putting on Memories in the Park. Foreman is inviting everyone to come out to Dunbar Park with the purpose to remember and honor loved ones who have passed. After his own father passed away 13 years ago, Foreman started the first event as a way to remember him. With help from Union County sponsors, there's inflatables for the kids and free burgers, hot dogs, chicken, cotton candy and sodas to enjoy. 'This is to combine the communities together just for one whole day, just to remember those we lost,' Foreman says. 'It's very important to keep their memories alive of what they doing prior to us. It's very important that everybody, and everyone is welcome to this event anytime.' Foreman says Memories in the Park will continue through 10 p.m. Saturday night. Swimmers flock to Burdette Park pool's opening day despite cooler temperatures
VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) — Saturday afternoon was relatively chilly in the Tri-State. Though temperatures then never went higher than the mid 70s, some decide to go swimming on the first day Burdette Park's pool opened. Some may have gone outside on Saturday and said 'it's too cold to go swimming,' but not this crowd. Several braved the cooler temps and physically jumped — or dived — into Burdette Park's pool for the first time this season. Those I spoke to say they wouldn't want it any other way, even if some were visibly shivering. To account for that weather, some gave themselves no other choice but to cover up with towels and sweatshirts to keep warm. But a little lackluster weather did not leave a bad impression on these park guests. Those I spoke to say they'll be back again this summer, including those who have been to Burdette time and time again like Arya and A'Melody Wilson from Henderson. 'We like swimming and we like floating and we like tanning,' says Arya Wilson. 'I like the spring boards and sliding,' A'Melody added. Lucky for then, there's some new things at the pool for the 2025 season. There's a new walk-over bridge over the slides, two 'funbrellas' and new speakers and lights to round out the experience. For the first time, Hot 96 will be hosting pool parties between 2 and 4 — weather permitting — on Fridays with giveaways. On top of securing some new amenities, Burdette Park Director Zachary Wathen says he's especially proud of his staff for getting the pool open as an ice storm hit early this year and of course after the record Tri-State flooding this spring. 'We don't really have any excuses out here. We got the pool open on time, but it definitely wasn't easy. But my crew out here made it happen, so I'm proud of them,' Wathen says. From now until August 3, the pool will be open seven days a week. Daredevil group debuts for the summer at Holiday World
SANTA CLAUS, Ind. (WEHT) — Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, Holiday World is welcoming a summer-long attraction to the park. The Nerveless Nocks will be putting on the stunts, and it's promising a Las Vegas-caliber show. Soaring through the sky, jumping rope four stories in the air, bending in all different fashions, defying gravity: this is just a sneak peek into what Holiday World unveils at the park. Replacing the park's dive show and a group coined by Queen Elizabeth, The Nerveless Nocks is spending the entire summer at what's considered America's first theme park. 'It's so beautiful here, and I guess that's why people come here. It's like a hidden jewel in the forest, and we just love it. Looking forward to a great summer,' The Nerveless Nocks President Michelangelo Nock says. The seventh generation owner says his group predates all of us, establishing in 1840 in Switzerland and traveling the world before eventually sharing the same stage with The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. Meanwhile in Santa Claus, the Holiday World staff say they were looking to improve their guest experience and believed it was time for a change. Beginning last fall, the park started talking with The Nerveless Nocks about bringing its show to Holiday World and some park guests attending the first show Friday morning tell me it's a worthwhile decision. Parkgoers couldn't help but look in awe — or look aware in anxiousness — and capture the act on their smart phones. The daredevils hailing from Florida, South Carolina, Wisconsin and Mexico even grabbed the attention of others waiting in lime for a nearby ride. For thirty minutes at a time, they go into the spinning wheel 40 feet off the ground, inside the sphere of fear with motorcycles and put on a jet pack and soar 30 feet in the air. 'It was wonderful. And the jet ski. That was my favorite. The jet ski — the jetpack was awesome,' says Jessica Hare visiting the park from Henderson. 'I had to leave, and I came running back when I saw it.' 'I love it a whole lot — the circus — more than the dive show,' says Madison Woodard from Evansville. 'A whole lot more.' There's still plenty of time for the Tri-State to see these performers for themselves. They go on stage three times a day each day the park is open from now until Labor Day. 'When we get performing as a team, we see the smilies on people's faces — the fun they're having,' says performer from Wisconsin Troy Stowe. 'We have so much fun as well. So, it's great to be out here and going live with these guys.' Check out what's new at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari in 2025
SANTA CLAUS, Ind. (WEHT) — Another season of thrills and fun is just around the corner at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari. On Saturday, the park opens to season passholders. Holiday World staff are making the finishing touches in anticipation for opening. Next weekend, the park opens the general public, and there's plenty of time for the Tri-State and visitors across the country to make memories in Santa Claus. At all corners of the park, staff are, figuratively, dusting off the cobwebs and making everything pretty for the countless visitors who will pass the turnstiles this summer. Just feet away from the front gate, you may notice something new for the 2025 season. The park has updated the portals to different holidays, like Halloween and 4th of July. The previous signs had stood for the last 40 years. Speaking of 4th of July, walk down the windy paths and hills to find a new paint job at Eagles Flight. Look closely, and you'll find that two of the cars themed to one of the Holiday World mascots — George the Eagle. With a couple new things at the park this year, there's some that are staying just the same as years prior. That of course includes free parking, free pre-kindergarten passes, free sunscreen and the 25th anniversary of free, unlimited soft drinks. 'That's something that we've done for so many years. Family is our focus, and we're going to continue to make sure that family continues to be our focus, and we want to make sure that we make those visit the best that it possibly can be. We're never going to take those things away,' Holiday World President and CEO Matt Eckert says. Holiday World opens to the general public on May 10. Splashin' Safari opens on May 17.
