Jamshedpur/Gumla: Two districts from Jharkhand earned national recognition at the
Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Public Administration
2024, which was held in New Delhi on Monday on the occasion of Civil Services Day, for demonstrating exemplary governance and development initiatives, the state govt said in a statement on Monday.
Gamharia block in Seraikela-Kharsawan district received the award under the
Aspirational Block Programme
(ABP) category. The ABP, launched in January 2023 by NITI Aayog, targets 500 underdeveloped blocks nationwide, focusing on improving quality of life through enhanced governance and service delivery across health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and social development sectors. Deuty commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla accepted the award from PM Narendra Modi at an event held in Vigyan Bhawan.
Gumla district
won the award for "
Holistic Development of Districts
2023". With it, Gumla became the only district nationwide to secure this honor for two consecutive years. Gumla DC Karn Satyarthi, who received the award, implemented an innovative five-principles saturation approach that transformed this tribal-dominated district despite challenges of difficult terrain and Naxal presence.
Gumla's success story includes significant interventions in education, health, infrastructure renovation, and rural women's empowerment.
