New book exposes truth behind Depp-Heard Hollywood romance

Don't miss out on the headlines from Hook Ups & Break Ups. Followed categories will be added to My News. It's been almost a decade since Amber Heard first filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, in what became one of the most talked-about breakups in Hollywood history. In the bitter disputes that followed, each accused the other of violence and addiction issues, and startling stories emerged about Depp severing his own finger to scrawl messages on a mirror with the bloodied tip. Heard, meanwhile, was accused of relieving herself in the marital bed (she blamed their dogs, teacup Yorkshire terriers Pistol and Boo). It was genuinely shocking stuff. And journalists Kelly Loudenberg and Makiko Wholey were in the box seat to witness every sad and sordid detail, which they now unpick in their HarperCollins book Hollywood Vampires: Johnny Depp, Amber Heard And The Celebrity Exploitation Machine. Amber Heard and Johnny Depp's doomed marriage became one of the most talked about Hollywood romances in recent memory. Picture: Steve Helber/AFP In an interview with Fox News Digital, Loudenberg said she hoped the book would remind readers that there was genuine love between the couple before the divorce became a media circus. 'We tried to write that into the story,' she said. 'We feel that there was a love they had for each other. There was a special connection to each other, which makes it all the more tragic and sad.' Her co-author, Wholey, also weighed in, saying, 'It's probably why it exploded so much. It did seem like they really were in love with each other for a time. 'But we brought it back to this idea of Hollywood, the machinations of Hollywood, making everything distorted for people. It's hard to find love in a hopeless place.' Certainly, theirs was a classic Hollywood love story of a famous older actor falling for his much younger co-star, when Depp, now 62, and Heard, 39, met on the set of 2011 movie The Rum Diary. They tied the knot in 2015, on Depp's private island in the Bahamas, where they enjoyed an intimate celebration of dinner, dancing and drugs with their nearest and dearest. Depp's son Jack was in the wedding party, but his actress daughter Lily-Rose refused to attend. The pair fell in love after meeting on-set in 2011. Picture:for Art of Elysium Fifteen months later, Heard filed for divorce, unleashing a deluge of mudslinging that has made Brangelina's legal stoush look like a fairytale uncoupling. Nobody came out a winner. Depp lost the first round when a UK judge found a 'great majority' of Heard's accounts could be proven on the balance of probabilities. The ruling led to the Pirates Of The Caribbean star being sacked from the Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore. The US actor then took the battle back to home soil, suing Heard for $77 million over an op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post in which she claimed to be a survivor of domestic abuse. Heard sued back, with a $154 million counterclaim against Depp. It's been a decade since Heard filed for divorce from Depp after 15 months of marriage. Picture: AAP Image/Dave Hunt The American jury sided with Depp, awarding him more than $23 million in damages. He was also found to have defamed Heard via his lawyer, and ordered to pay her $3 million. The proceedings, which saw actress Ellen Barkin take the stand and Depp's private texts with Paul Bettany shared in open court, were broadcast live. So feverish was the interest that large crowds of spectators would gather outside the courthouse each day. Some even arrived hours early to wait in line for a coveted spot inside the courtroom. While giving her evidence, Heard described the toll of the attention: 'I am harassed, humiliated, threatened every single day. 'Even just walking into this courtroom, sitting here in front of the world, having the worst parts of my life, things that I've lived through, used to humiliate me. People want to kill me, and they tell me so every day.' Heard has now largely retreated from the public eye, moving to Spain to raise the three children she has since welcomed alone. By contrast, Depp is on the comeback trail. Johnny Depp Joins Alice Cooper on stage in tribute to Ozzy Osbourne Video Player is loading. Play Video This is a modal window. Beginning of dialog window. Elon Musk faced 'similar drama' with Amber Heard as Johnny Depp, new book claims

A recently released book has claimed that Tesla CEO Elon Musk faced "similar drama" with Amber Heard as Johnny Depp did. The book named 'Hollywood Vampires: Johnny Depp, Amber Heard, and the Celebrity Exploitation Machine', written by Kelly Loudenberg and Makiko Whole, was released in June. This book has revealed that the world's richest man's relationship with Heard was also marked by turbulence and toxicity. The book, which details the marriage between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, also suggested that Heard "broke Elon Musk's heart" a decade ago. Initially, their romance appeared smooth; however, the book reportedly revealed that Heard and Musk's relationship was plagued by fighting, jealousy, and dramatic accusations. According to the book (as seen by Daily Mail), individuals within Elon Musk's inner circle later made strikingly similar observations about Amber Heard's character as those expressed by people close to Johnny Depp. How was Elon Musk's relationship with Amber Heard: A walkthrough as detailed by the new book As detailed in the book, shortly after a restraining order was granted to Heard against Depp in May 2016, a large plant was delivered to Amber's Los Angeles apartment. The card attached read: "I had a wonderful weekend with you – E." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The TV show spiralled out of control. Undo A concierge later testified in court under oath that Elon already had his own key fob for the penthouse garage and had been visiting Amber regularly for over a year—usually late at night, during Depp's absence, the book claims. In June 2016, Heard flew to the Tesla factory in Fremont, California, to surprise Musk on his birthday. On her way, she picked wildflowers, and upon arrival, his security team helped her hide in the back of a Tesla, the book noted. Later on, in July 2016, Amber and Elon were seen together in Miami. Amber was accompanied by her sister, Whitney. The three stayed in poolside villas at the Delano Hotel, and Elon later flew the sisters to Cape Canaveral to attend a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch, the book highlighted. Heard described the experience to biographer Walter Isaacson as "the most interesting date" she'd ever had. Their relationship, though just beginning, started gaining momentum. However, their relationship had its challenges, which were marked by arguments, jealousy, and serious allegations, the book mentioned. Those close to Musk would later share observations about Amber's behaviour that echoed what Depp's associates had said. Soon after Heard returned to Australia to shoot Aquaman, but this time she was accompanied by Musk instead of Depp. As per the book, concerns reportedly grew within Tesla and SpaceX. At that time, Musk had rented Heard a house, and those around him felt he was becoming increasingly distracted, the book alleged. A source claimed Heard would keep him up all night, showing little regard for his professional responsibilities. 'She did more to slow the advancement of electric cars than the CEO of Exxon Mobil,' the source said to the book writers. Musk later referred to the relationship as his most emotionally painful, calling it 'brutal.' Despite his difficulty with emotional expression, he admitted being deeply affected. In a Rolling Stone interview shortly after their breakup, he said, 'I was really in love and it hurt bad,' noting he had struggled to stay composed during the Tesla Model 3 launch just a day earlier. Though they continued seeing each other on and off in 2017, things grew more turbulent. A friend of Heard's recalled her describing Musk as controlling and paranoid, claiming he installed cameras and bugged her car. However, Heard's friend was sceptical and compared the claims to similar ones she had made about Depp, the book noted Their relationship finally ended during a December trip to Rio in 2017, following a confrontation in their hotel. Heard accused Musk of taking her passport and said she feared being harmed, though others present assured her she was safe and free to leave. After their final split, Heard messaged her agent expressing sadness. He replied, reminding her she had repeatedly said she wasn't truly in love with Musk and was just trying to fill a void. Shock new claims about ‘doomed' Johnny Depp, Amber Heard romance

Don't miss out on the headlines from Hook Ups & Break Ups. Followed categories will be added to My News. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's relationship seemed doomed from the start, but insiders believed there was 'genuine love' before it all exploded. The actor, 62, and actress, 39, are being examined in a new book written by Kelly Loudenberg and Makiko Wholey, Hollywood Vampires: Johnny Depp, Amber Heard, and the Celebrity Exploitation Machine. It features never-before-told stories from the pair's inner circle. Fox News Digital reached out to representatives for Depp and Heard for comment. Loudenberg told Fox News Digital that while the relationship quickly disintegrated, the love Heard and Depp initially had for each other was the real deal. 'The people, the friends we talked to on both sides, said there was genuine love between them and that it was authentic,' she explained. 'We tried to write that into the story. We feel that there was a love they had for each other. There was a special connection to each other, which makes it all the more tragic and sad.' 'It's probably why it exploded so much,' Wholey shared. 'It did seem like they really were in love with each other for a time. But we brought it back to this idea of Hollywood, the machinations of Hollywood, making everything distorted for people. 'It's hard to find love in a hopeless place.' The actors split in 2016. Picture:Depp and Heard first met on the set of the 2011 film The Rum Diary, which was filmed in Puerto Rico. The book shared that when Depp first met Heard in his office, he took one look at her and thought, 'Yep … That's the one … she could definitely kill me.' While Heard already had a girlfriend, Hawaiian artist and model Tasya van Ree, Depp would later remark to director Bruce Robinson, 'Don't worry, no leading lady of mine stays gay for very long.' When van Ree returned to Los Angeles, one crew member on set claimed Depp and Heard became 'locked into that death dance.' A 'mutual infatuation' quickly unfolded. A passionate kissing scene appeared to blur lines. 'It didn't feel like a normal scene,' Heard later admitted. 'It felt real.' The book shared that while they'd never married, Depp reportedly gave the French singer and model $100 million in the separation. That same month, Depp gave Heard a $6,500 Palomino horse named Peaches and Creme. She renamed it Arrow. For his 49th birthday, she gave him a foot-long turquoise-handled knife. As a romance blossomed, Heard didn't appear fazed by the 22-year age difference. 'All the guys I date are older than me,' Heard told a reporter a year before she met Depp, as quoted in the book. Clary/AFP According to the book, Depp's childhood friend Bruce Witkin said he was stunned that Depp jumped straight into another relationship. He encouraged him to remain a bachelor or 'go Clooney it up.' 'We were also surprised to hear from people that there were … red flags,' Loudenberg told Fox News Digital. 'I guess hindsight is 20/20. But if you have your best friend marrying someone that you have reservations about, but they're really happy, are you going to go and raise any major concerns unless you've seen something that really should tell you to sway them in a different direction? 'I think it was just small enough that nobody wanted to say anything,' Loudenberg added. 'And, also, from Amber's side, her friends and family, we don't know exactly what kind of red flags they maybe saw because we didn't get to talk to her about that. But I'm sure that both sides can look back on it and see the writing on the wall.' While Depp and Heard reportedly dated on and off throughout 2012, Depp vowed not to let someone like Heard 'slip through his fingers.' According to the book, as the pair's relationship grew more serious, Depp 'drifted further away from his small and trusted network of family, friends and staff.' Heard in court in 2022. By then, bitter fights were already occurring within the relationship, the book claimed. 'Members of Johnny's inner circle pleaded with Johnny to get a prenup,' the book says. 'They said he initially agreed to do so but then dropped it and announced he was getting married anyway.' Leading up to the wedding, Witkin spent time with Depp in the recording studio. That's when Depp said Heard wanted to get married quickly. She pointed out that Depp was starting to film the next Pirates of the Caribbean film, which required a six-month shoot in Australia. He would have to live there full-time while filming, and she wanted stability in their relationship. 'She wanted to get it over with,' Witkin recalled. '[His sister] Christi [Dembrowski] was there, and we both told him, 'So what? You don't have to do it. Don't do it.' We're trying to tell him, 'Don't do this until you get a prenup.' And Johnny kind of says to Christie, 'Well, you tell her.' Christi cried and tried to convince Johnny not to go ahead with it. I tried to convince him too.' 'The next thing I know, it's going along,' he said. 'And, at first, I'm like, 'Is this really happening?' It was rushed to me. I was freaked out, but what am I gonna do, not go? I gotta try to be there to support him, you know.' The book noted that, in 2015, there were two weddings in rapid succession — a small civil ceremony in Los Angeles and a larger celebration on Depp's private island in the Bahamas within the week. The LA wedding was 'hastily arranged.' And by the time the couple said 'I do,' the relationship was 'severely troubled.' 'Most of the people in Johnny's life were aware of the red flags in the relationship,' the book states. 'In the early days, Jerry Judge, Johnny's late chief of security, would tell [Depp's assistant] Stephen [Deuters] and [his wife Gina] about having to separate Johnny and Amber so they'd stop arguing. Whenever Amber travelled with Johnny, his team always rented out an extra hotel room in case a fight broke out, and they needed to be sent to their own corners.' 'It was hard to see because we knew him in his prior relationships, and it was never like that,' said Gina, as quoted in the book. 'Voices weren't raised. It was such a stark difference with Amber. But if that's what they want, then you're going to support them, and you're going to hope that it works out, and hope they find peace and happiness.' A new book will examine their relationship. Picture: Justin Tallis/AFP The couple separated in 2016, but it was only the beginning of a very public breakdown of their relationship. Less than a week after filing for divorce, Heard filed a domestic restraining order against her husband on grounds of domestic abuse charges, People magazine reported. Just one day ahead of their scheduled restraining order hearing, they reached a $7 million settlement in their divorce, the outlet reported. Their divorce was finalised in 2017. Depp said he was libelled by Heard when she wrote a 2018 op-ed piece describing herself as a 'public figure representing domestic abuse.' His lawyers said he was defamed by the article even though it never mentioned his name because, they argued, it referenced abuse allegations Heard had made against Depp during divorce proceedings. Heard said she was defamed by Depp when one of his lawyers called her abuse allegations a 'hoax.' A high-profile trial ensued in 2022 in which the exes accused each other of physical and verbal abuse. The jury awarded Depp $10 million in damages but also awarded $2 million to Heard. Depp's camp said the deal includes a $1 million payment from her to him to settle all financial claims. 'They both moved on and want to put this behind them and don't want to be tied their entire lives to this trial,' Loudenberg told Fox News Digital. 'Sadly, they might not be able to escape that fate,' Wholey added. 'This was such a huge thing. Anytime one of their names is printed, or there's some mention of the trial or something like that, they're together. Both largely don't live here anymore in the US. I think they're just trying to move on.' This article originally appeared in Fox News and was reproduced with permission. Juror says women on Depp-Heard trial jury doubted Amber Heard more than male jurors

A male juror from the high-profile Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard defamation trial has shared new insights into the jury's deliberations, revealing that the two female jurors were particularly skeptical of Heard's testimony. The comments come from Hollywood Vampires: Johnny Depp, Amber Heard, and the Celebrity Exploitation Machine, a new book by Kelly Loudenberg and Makiko Wholey published June 17. Tom Nugen, a 53-year-old retired defense contractor, stated that 'the women were tougher on Amber than the men,' describing significant inconsistencies in Heard's statements. The comments provide new perspective on the jury's mindset during the widely watched trial. Nugen recalled that the jury found 'so many holes' in Heard's account that they struggled to believe her. 'They're all actors; they can put on a different face if you pay them enough,' he said. He also admitted to enjoying Depp's courtroom demeanor, saying his testimony offered a 'breath of fresh air' during the long proceedings. Nugen said most jurors were unfamiliar with Heard before the trial. He also emphasized that the case highlighted how abuse allegations shouldn't be assumed to involve only male perpetrators. 'Not every case of abuse is from the man,' he said, adding that for ordinary men, a false accusation could be life-altering. Depp sued Heard in 2022 over a Washington Post op-ed about domestic violence. He won all three defamation claims, while Heard prevailed on one of her countersuits. She later paid Depp $1 million in a settlement. The book offers a rare behind-the-scenes look into one of the most scrutinized celebrity trials, revealing how media narratives and personal bias influence the pursuit of justice.
