Proteas cricket stars shine at Cricket South Africa Awards at Emperors Palace
The Proteas women's and men's cricket teams recently paid a visit to Emperors Palace for this year's Cricket South Africa Awards. After attending the CSA Pathway Awards in the morning, players from the two national teams took a timeout to meet and have their photographs taken with a few of Peermont and Emperors Palace's executives and management. During the main CSA Awards function in the evening, Luus, who also plays for the Fidelity Titans, won the Hollywoodbets Pro 50 player of the season award. ALSO READ: Bedfordview twins reach new heights in sport and academics Both Wolvaardt and Kapp were nominated for the women's T20 international player of the year and SA women's player of the year awards. Teammate Nonkulululeko Mlaba walked off with the honours on both occasions. Wolvaardt and Kapp were also nominees for the women's one-day international player of the year, but Annerie Dercksen scooped this award. After captaining the Proteas men's cricket team to a historic ICC World Test Championship victory earlier this year at Lord's cricket groud, it was only fitting that captain Temba Bavuma won the test player of the year and the SA fans' player of the year awards.

DP World Wanderers Stadium is ready for the Jozi Cup matches
In light of the country's biggest T20 winter club cricket competition commencing next month, the DP World Wanderers hosted the Jozi Cup capping ceremony on May 10. The brainchild of Lions Cricket, the Jozi Cup was developed to foster community club cricket, which ultimately serves as a continuation of the Pride's pipeline feeder system. Inclusive of blind cricket teams as well as players from the valued Telkom Talent Acceleration Programme, there is no stone left unturned when it comes to unearthing the talent within the pipeline. The tournament will once again include the support of the Joburg Super Kings (JSK). Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright said, 'We are excited to have JSK a part of this tournament again and supporting our Jozi Cup. Having them involved certainly elevates the experience for all our participating clubs and players. Every sponsor, partner, team and volunteer aid in making this an exceptional experience and a project we are proud to power.' 'This is a competitive tournament that offers players the opportunity to improve their game under the guidance of experienced players while at the same time encouraging them to play with freedom,' he said. 'As per every year, the tournament strives to uphold its founding values of inclusivity, diversity, fairness, equity and equality, no matter gender, race or religion, offering clubs and the entire cricketing ecosystem something to look forward to each winter and feel a genuine sense of belonging to the Lions Pride.' Mandlzi added the team was thrilled to welcome a girls' U13 division for the first time. The divisions and age groups are as follows: U11, U13 boys, U13 girls, U14, U16 and U18; Men's Open Division (Premier League A); Women's Open Division; Senior Men's Open; Veterans and Blind cricket. Starting on May 11, the finals will commence over the Youth Day weekend and be played at the iconic DP World Wanderers, with the Jozi Cup prize giving for each age group set to take place post each match, inclusive of the fun and pizzazz everyone is used to.
