Operation in Holyoke focused on ‘open-air drug dealing' nets 6 arrests
HOLYOKE — Police in Holyoke arrested six people Monday and seized a gun, over 75 grams of cocaine, more than 100 bags of heroin mixed with fentanyl and over $2600 in cash. The arrests happened in the areas of Appleton, Elm, Cabot and Sargent streets, according to the Holyoke Police Department's post on social media. The operation involved multiple agencies working together to address 'open-air drug dealing in the city of Holyoke,' the post says. Law enforcement officers involved in the effort came from the Holyoke Police narcotics task force, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit West, Massachusetts State Police S.A.F.E. task force, and Hampden County District Attorney's narcotics task force. During the operation, officers saw Michael Rivera and Jose Torres making alleged drug transactions in the area of Elm and Appleton Streets, according to Holyoke Police. Police watched as Torres got into a car. They conducted mobile surveillance and when the vehicle stopped on Suffolk Street, they arrested Torres. At the same time officers stopped Torres, Holyoke Police said officers arrested Rivera and recovered ten bags of heroin. Near Cabot Street, police said they saw Nestor Quinones and Vieshaun Davis conducting 'alleged drug transactions.' Police said they stopped Teofilo Rosado 'after a suspected drug deal.' After police found cocaine, they arrested him. After Rosado's arrest, police then detained Davis and Quinones. Davis, police said, wore a cross-body bag that contained 59 grams of cocaine, more than $2000 in cash and a loaded firearm. 'The firearm was reportedly stolen out of Maine,' the post says. Meanwhile, Quinones possessed $611 and 15 grams of cocaine, police said, and so they arrested him. Police said they believed Raul Hernandez was involved in suspected drug dealing. He was detained, and officers recovered approximately 28 capsules of cocaine, and 90 bags of heroin mixed with fentanyl, the post says. Among the charges: Michael Rivera, 33, was charged with conspiracy to violate drug law, distribution of a class A drug, possession of a class B drug. Jose Torres, 30, was charged with conspiracy to violate drug law, distribution of a class A drug. Vieshaun Davis, 44, was charged with carrying a gun without a license, possession of a gun during a felony, cocaine trafficking, possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a dangerous weapon, possession of a class A drug, receiving stolen property. Nestor Quinones, 43, was charged with distribution of a class B drug, arrest warrant. Teofilo Rosado, 56, was charged with possession of a class B drug. Raul Hernandez, 44, was charged with distribution of a class A drug, possession of class A and B drugs, intent to distribute class A and B drugs. Holyoke police identify juvenile connected to hoax school threat
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Holyoke police have identified a juvenile in connection with a hoax school threat made on social media. According to Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan, the threat was reported on Instagram and was related to Holyoke High School. Students brought the post to the attention of multiple school resource officers. Holyoke Police quickly assessed the threat and deemed it non-credible. After identifying the juvenile, officers spoke with them along with their parent about the seriousness of posting any type of threat online. 'I'd like to thank Officers Cruz, Rivera, and our Detectives for their prompt handling of this situation,' said Chief Keenan. 'Our department treats any threat to our community seriously and thoroughly investigates each situation to determine if any threat is credible. In this case, thankfully, it was not. The safety and well-being of our students and community is paramount. I appreciate the vigilance of the students who brought this post to our officers' attention, and in doing so, the officers were able to quickly identify the person responsible for the post.' 'I have full faith in Chief Keenan and his officers to investigate these types of incidents, and I thank them for identifying the source of this post with urgency,' said Holyoke Mayor Joshua Garcia. 'While it can be uneasy, I want to assure our community, students, staff, and teachers that there is no ongoing threat, and this post was deemed to not be credible. If there was a situation where we received a threat and it was deemed credible or if it was unclear, we would alert our community immediately.' The Holyoke Police Department stated that there was never a credible threat to the community. Officers urge anyone who sees an online threat mentioning a school in the area to contact the police immediately. Multi-car crash in Holyoke damages traffic light, parked cars
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A two-vehicle crash in Holyoke Saturday evening involved a traffic light, light pole, and multiple parked cars being damaged. Road closures at East and Broadway in Chicopee due to fire Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan stated that officers received reports of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Appleton Street and Maple Street at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The collision caused one vehicle to crash into a traffic light and a light pole. Three parked vehicles were also struck and damaged during the incident. The vehicles were unoccupied. One driver involved in the crash was brough to Holyoke Hospital to be evaluated for possible injuries. The intersection was closed off Saturday evening. The Holyoke Police Department is currently investigating the cause of the crash. Cocaine discovered during property check by police on South Bridge Street in Holyoke
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Police found vials of cocaine during a property check on South Bridge Street in Holyoke last week. The Holyoke Police said that officers conducted a property check at around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 27th, as part of the department's effort to address quality of life issues in the area. Upon arrival, officers observed a blanket over a first-floor railing and a person loitering around it in the area of 534 South Bridge Street. Man charged in Holyoke shooting that killed baby out of jail The person took off running, and when the officer searched the blanket, they found approximately 50 vials of cocaine and a vial of crack-cocaine. Holyoke Police arrest man on multiple child rape charges
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A month-long investigation by Holyoke Police detectives has led to the arrest of 45-year-old Luis Rodriguez-Martinez in connection with multiple alleged sexual assaults of a child. Rodriguez-Martinez was taken into custody on Friday, March 14, at approximately 3:45 p.m. at an apartment on Spring Street. His arrest follows an extensive investigation led by Detective Melissa Rex, who obtained a Holyoke District Court arrest warrant for him earlier that day. Holyoke Detectives located Rodriguez-Martinez at 10 Spring Street and placed him under arrest without incident. Rodriguez-Martinez was arraigned in Holyoke District Court, where his bail was set at $25,000. Due to the sensitive nature of the case, authorities have not released further details about the ongoing investigation. Rodriguez-Martinez faces multiple serious charges, including: Dissemination of Obscene Matter to a Minor (2 counts) Intimidation of a Witness (2 counts) Threat to Commit a Crime (2 counts) Aggravated Rape of a Child (4 counts) Rape of a Child with Force (2 counts) Indecent Assault & Battery on a Child Under 14 Engaging in Sexual Conduct with a Child Under 18 for a Fee Attempt to Commit a Crime Assault & Battery The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with additional information to contact the Holyoke Police Department.
