Springfield Thunderbirds join forces with the fire department to raise money for LA fires

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – On Saturday night, the Springfield Thunderbirds teamed up with the Springfield Fire Department to raise funds for fire crews battling wildfires in California, which has created hundreds of billions of dollars worth of damage. This event took place at Hometown Heroes Night, where the Springfield firefighters were at the game stationed around the arena collecting donations for the 'Fill the Boot Campaign.' Local animal organizations invite community to build shelters for feral cats The T-Birds took on the Providence Bruins at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, but it's more than a game for the organization. They are fundraising for the brave women and men who have been fighting on the front lines in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. Springfield firefighters, Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts, and Local 648 were outside the venue before the game with their trucks on display, greeting fans, before collecting donations in the boots. The Thunderbirds also sold 50/50 raffle tickets, and those proceeds will contribute to the benefit as well. All funds raised from the game will go to the International Association of Firefighters Foundation, which will then be distributed to the LA departments impacted by the fires.
