Exclusive: Honda Two-Wheeler To Launch EV Every Year; Aims For No 1 Market Share In India

Ahmedabad (Anirban Mitra): Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) is committed to claiming the top position in the domestic market and is investing heavily in facility expansion. The company has globally achieved the 50 crore vehicle production milestone, rolling the landmark unit out of the Vithalapur facility in Gujarat. Minoru Kato, executive officer, of Honda Motor Company, said, "We are aiming for the largest market share in India by creating a production environment that meets the needs of evolving customers. We are investing Rs 920 crore in the expansion of Vithalapur Plant. This will increase HSMI's annual production to 70 lakh units by 2027." The company has four plants across India with a current installed capacity of 61 lakh per annum. Manesar facility in Haryana has an annual production capacity of 3.8 lakh units, while Tapukara in Rajasthan can produce 13 lakh units. The dedicated EV plant in Narsapura in Karnataka can manufacture 25 lakh units per year. Revealing the company's performance, the top official said HMSI sold 53.26 million (excluding EVs) in FY25, recording 28.3 per cent market share. On the back of strong performance of Activa, Shine and other mass market products, HMSI could narrow its gap from Hero MotoCorp. Karo sounded bullish on India's instrumental role in Honda's aim to touch 6 crore-sales figure annually in the global two-wheeler market by 2030. Electric Vehicles: HMSI launched Activa e: and QC1 in India earlier in 2025. The QC1 comes with a fixed battery while the Activa e: comes with two swappable batteries which can't be charged externally at residence or workplace. Honda Power has installed e: Swap stations in Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi NCR as part of phase 1 where customers can replace the drained-out batteries with fresh ones. Kato said, "The battery health in electric vehicles degenerates over the years of usage. We believe customers will accept the swapping model as Honda is responsible for charging and warranty of the batteries." Honda two-wheeler's Kato said the company plans to launch at least one electric model globally every year and India's Narsapura plant can become an EV export hub. HMSI will construct a dedicated EV plant within premises of its third plant in Karnataka which will be fully operational by 2028. Honda unveiled two electric motorcycle concepts, 'EV Fun' and 'EV Urban', at the EICMA last year. The commercialisation and sales of these sporty offerings will commence in Europe in the second half of 2025. Honda is late to join the EV party in India, but Tsutsumu Otani as president, CEO and MD, HMSI showed clear intent to rise to the apex EV motorcycle market. "The electric two-wheeler market in India is gradually growing. Around 12 lakh electric two-wheelers were sold in India in FY25. We aim for the number 1 position in the EV two-wheeler segment in coming years." On the EV front, Honda is working on multiple models by standardising and combining modules, which will contribute to cost reduction. India will act as an export hub for Honda, and Otani said the modularised models will be produced at the Narsapura facility from 2028.

Honda launches X-ADV 750 adventure scooter in India at ₹11.90 lakh: 5 Things to know

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) has officially launched the X-ADV 750 in India, priced at ₹ 11.90 lakh. The offering is a rugged, adventure-ready maxi-scooter. This comes nearly two years after the company secured the nameplate's patent in India. Bookings are now open at Honda's BigWing dealerships, with deliveries expected to commence from June. Here are five key things to know about the new Honda X-ADV 750: 1. Inspired by Adventure Motorcycles Blurring the line between a maxi-scooter and an adventure tourer, the X-ADV draws heavy inspiration from Honda's off-road capable motorcycles. It features an upright stance and muscular styling, aimed at offering both city comfort and off-road versatility — a unique proposition in the Indian scooter landscape. 2. Powerful Twin-Cylinder Engine At the heart of the X-ADV is a 745 cc, liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder engine. It delivers 54 bhp at 6,250 rpm and 68 Nm of torque at 4,750 rpm, paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission — a setup similar to Honda's Africa Twin adventure bike. This engine-transmission combo brings motorcycle-grade performance to the scooter segment. 3. Loaded with Terrain-Focused Features Designed for varying terrains, the scooter comes with dual-sport tyres, spoke wheels, knuckle guards, and a five-step adjustable windscreen. Riders also benefit from Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) and a ride-by-wire throttle system, enabling four preset riding modes — Standard, Sport, Rain, and Gravel — as well as a fully customisable User mode. 4. Packed with Premium Tech The X-ADV isn't just about performance. It boasts a five-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, smart key access, Honda Smartphone Voice Control system, and USB charging. Practicality is enhanced through a 22-litre under-seat storage, a 1.2-litre glovebox, a centre stand, and a comfortable step-up seat for long journeys. 5. Colours and Market Positioning In India, the X-ADV 750 will be available in two colour options: Pearl Glare White and Graphite Black. With this launch, Honda joins the growing list of manufacturers tapping into India's budding premium scooter market, which has recently seen entries such as the Yamaha Aerox 155 and BMW C 400GT. The X-ADV stands out as an unconventional yet capable offering, aimed at enthusiasts seeking adventure without compromising on scooter practicality.

Honda X-ADV: The scooter with adventure bike genes

Honda's global two-wheeler business is undoubtedly filled with products of all shapes and sizes, and there's now a maxi-scooter on sale in India which is sure to raise eyebrows, in a good way. The X-ADV is priced at Rs 11.90 lakh (ex-showroom), and for that, one gets a scooter that is large enough to dwarf most big motorcycles in the market. As far as dimensions are concerned, it's 2,215mm long, 940mm wide, and 1,370mm tall. It has a seat height of 820mm, ground clearance of 165mm and a fairly large fuel tank capacity of 13.2 litres. The X-ADV tips the scale at 237kg and has a healthy wheelbase of 1,590mm. 2025 Honda X-ADV advertisementHonda's maxi-scooter is powered by a 745cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin SOHC motor, which churns out 58.5bhp@6,750rpm and 69 Nm@4,750rpm, whilst being mated to a six-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). Furthermore, the X-ADV gets ride-by-wire technology and four riding modes as well. These include Standard, Sport, Rain and Gravel, clearly pointing towards this maxi-ADV's intentions. There's also an additional 'User' mode that allows for customisation. That's not all, it is also equipped with Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) and cruise control. 2025 Honda X-ADV In terms of cycle parts, the X-ADV gets 41mm upside-down forks (USDs) up front, a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear, and sits on a tubular steel frame. It is shod in 17-inch front and 15-inch rear wire-spoke wheels, with a 296mm disc up front with dual radial mount four-piston callipers. The braking duties at the back are handled by a 240mm disc with a single piston calliper. As is the norm, it gets dual-channel ABS, as well. The X-ADV is capable of reaching a claimed top speed of 168kmph, and has an oil capacity of 4 litres. 2025 Honda X-ADV advertisementOther noteworthy highlights include the LED lighting all around, which looks particularly distinct in the front with that dual setup, and the DRLs. There's also an adjustable screen for those long rides, and behind it sits the five-inch TFT display, which gets Honda RoadSync app connectivity, with call and SMS alerts, turn-by-turn navigation, as well as music control and voice commands. One neat addition here is that the X-ADV features self-cancelling indicators, which double up as the aforementioned DRLs. 2025 Honda X-ADV Since this is a scooter, and a large one at that, it gets a 22-litre storage compartment, and a redesigned seat which claims to make getting in and out of the saddle easy, without compromising long-distance comfort. To further add to the convenience features, there's also a USB-C charging port. Interested buyers of the Honda X-ADV can choose between two colour options - Pearl Glare White and Graphite Black. However, in the UK, there are two additional colours called Matte Goldfinch Yellow and Matte and Matte Deep Mud Grey, which look quite cool. 2025 Honda X-ADV Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) has stated that deliveries will commence in June 2025, and this maxi-scooter with ADV credentials will be sold through Honda BigWing dealerships across India, as the other bigger offerings from the Japanese automotive giant. It's important to note that this is now the most expensive scooter on sale in the country, surpassing the BMW C 400 GT, which also happens to be the only competition it has in to Auto Today Magazine
