Mitsubishi Triton driver flees after ramming motorcyclists at Melaka traffic light, surrenders later
MELAKA, April 27 — Police have arrested the driver of a four-wheel drive (4WD) after he surrendered himself at the Melaka Tengah police headquarters at 12.50pm yesterday, some 13 hours after a fatal hit-and-run incident where he did not stop to render assistance to two motorcyclists. In yesterday's accident, the 50-year-old suspect was driving his Mitsubishi Triton which rear-ended a motorcycle, fatally wounding the pillion rider at the traffic lights on the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin Highway (Lebuh AMJ) at Balai Panjang here, said Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Christopher Patit. 'The suspect's blood was taken for a toxicology test to detect any presence of alcohol in addition to a urine test. 'The suspect has been detained under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (for reckless driving) and a remand application will be made at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate's Court tomorrow,' he said in a statement yesterday. He said that in the accident which occurred at about 11pm, the victim Roslinah Sinan, 53, who was riding pillion on a motorcycle ridden by her husband Hisham Omar, 57, died at the scene from severe head injuries. He said Hisham, who sustained severe injuries to his head and body, was taken to Melaka Hospital for treatment, while the driver of the Mitsubishi Triton was unhurt and fled the scene after the collision. Christopher also stated that both victims, who were astride a Honda Wave 125 motorcycle, were on their way from their Taman Angkasa Nuri home in Durian Tunggal to a restaurant in Balai Panjang. He added that when the motorcycle had stopped at the traffic light junction, it was rear-ended by the 4WD vehicle, which was coming from Malim heading towards Bachang. — Bernama

(PDRM pic) PETALING JAYA : Police have arrested the driver of a pickup truck who surrendered himself in Melaka some 13 hours after a hit-and-run with a motorcycle in which an elderly woman was killed and her husband seriously injured. Police said the couple, riding a Honda Wave 125 motorcycle, were on their way from their home in Durian Tunggal to a restaurant in Balai Panjang. The motorcycle had stopped at the traffic light junction at about 11pm when it was rear-ended by a Mitsubishi Triton coming from Malim heading towards Bachang. The pillion-rider, Roslinah Sinan, 53, was killed, while her husband, Hisham Omar, 57, suffered severe injuries, said Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit. He said the driver of the pickup truck was not injured and fled the scene after the collision. A man has been arrested and held in custody pending a remand application tomorrow.

Woman killed, husband seriously hurt in Melaka hit and run, truck driver held
MELAKA: A woman was killed and her husband seriously injured after their motorcycle was hit by a four-wheel-drive in a hit and run at the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin Highway, near Balai Panjang, here, last night. Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the incident occurred about 11pm when Roslinah Sinan, 53, and Hisham Omar, 57, were riding a Honda Wave 125 motorcycle from Malim to Balai Panjang. He said preliminary investigations found that the couple were travelling from their home in Taman Angkasa Nuri, Durian Tunggal, to have dinner at a restaurant. He said the Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck driver was heading from Malim to Bachang. "When the couple stopped at a traffic light at the highway, the pickup truck rammed into their motorcycle. "The pillion rider, Roslinah, sustained serious injuries and died at the scene. "Her husband was seriously injured and was taken to Melaka Hospital for treatment. "The victim's body was taken to the Forensic Department and a POL 61 form was issued to determine the cause of death," he said today. Christopher said the 50-year-old Mitsubishi Triton driver fled the scene, but was arrested at the Melaka Tengah police headquarters today. "Police will conduct blood and urine tests on the suspect. He was using a company vehicle at the time of the incident. "The suspect will be taken to the Ayer Keroh magistrate's court tomorrow for a remand order. Investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987." He said police were looking for witnesses and obtaining dashboard camera recordings of the accident. A video of the accident went viral last night. It showed a woman screaming and urging her husband to record the pickup truck driver.
