Woman killed, husband seriously hurt in Melaka hit and run, truck driver held

MELAKA: A woman was killed and her husband seriously injured after their motorcycle was hit by a four-wheel-drive in a hit and run at the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin Highway, near Balai Panjang, here, last night.
Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the incident occurred about 11pm when Roslinah Sinan, 53, and Hisham Omar, 57, were riding a Honda Wave 125 motorcycle from Malim to Balai Panjang.
He said preliminary investigations found that the couple were travelling from their home in Taman Angkasa Nuri, Durian Tunggal, to have dinner at a restaurant.
He said the Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck driver was heading from Malim to Bachang.
"When the couple stopped at a traffic light at the highway, the pickup truck rammed into their motorcycle.
"The pillion rider, Roslinah, sustained serious injuries and died at the scene.
"Her husband was seriously injured and was taken to Melaka Hospital for treatment.
"The victim's body was taken to the Forensic Department and a POL 61 form was issued to determine the cause of death," he said today.
Christopher said the 50-year-old Mitsubishi Triton driver fled the scene, but was arrested at the Melaka Tengah police headquarters today.
"Police will conduct blood and urine tests on the suspect. He was using a company vehicle at the time of the incident.
"The suspect will be taken to the Ayer Keroh magistrate's court tomorrow for a remand order. Investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987."
He said police were looking for witnesses and obtaining dashboard camera recordings of the accident.
A video of the accident went viral last night. It showed a woman screaming and urging her husband to record the pickup truck driver.
