New MagicOS 9 version brings the Phantom Engine to the Magic6 series for stable gaming
Honor has released a new MagicOS version for the Honor Magic6 series, version number 9.0.0.175. This includes new AI-powered photo editing tools, some improvements to the UI and the Phantom Engine for gaming. The initial MagicOS 9 update came months ago, this one is a feature-focused update. The Phantom Engine was introduced with the Honor GT models. It predicts heavy frames – ones that will take more time to render – and allocates more resources to rendering them. This helps reduce stutter, but it may increase power consumption and heat. The Phantom Engine comes to the Honor Magic6 series The Phantom Engine has support for Genshin Impact, Honor of Kings, Honkai: Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero and others. The change log for version 175 also includes other features. AI helps remove reflections and wrinkles in photos. You can set alarms for a specific time and date in a floating window. Screen recording and screenshots have been optimized. There is additional customization for the lockscreen too. You can block calls from regional numbers, which can help avoid spam calls. Genshin Impact creator taps AI for fresh ideas as Chinese video game maker faces headwinds
For decades, Chinese video games and American gamers did not mix. US audiences were receptive to all manner of weird and wonderful experiences, from Finnish game Angry Birds to Japanese Pokémon, but sidestepped anything coming out of China. That was until Genshin Impact arrived five years ago, with two dozen plucky anime characters who fought monsters and took on quests. The HoYoverse production was an instant hit and went on to earn about US$6.2 billion from smartphone players' in-app purchases, according to data from Sensor Tower. HoYoverse, the international brand of Shanghai-based miHoYo, has had much success with its anime-inspired fantasy games. It followed Genshin Impact with Honkai: Star Rail and, in 2024, Zenless Zone Zero, three games that have collectively generated more than US$8.4 billion from mobile phone sales, according to Sensor Tower.
