Hononegah scores three runs in the bottom of the seventh to edge Harlem in regional action
MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Hononegah and Harlem are two teams that are very close in talent this baseball season. They split their two regular season games, and Thursday afternoon they battled down to the wire with Hononegah pulling out a walk-off 5-4 win. at the 4A Harlem Indians were the home team as the higher seed despite the game being played at Harlem, so the Indians had their final at bat in the bottom of the seventh. They trailed 4-2 going into that, but they put three runs on the board. The first scored when Max Miller singled in Nolan Mabie making it 4-3. Later that inning, Hononegah loaded the bases. Nick Santis came to the plate. He hit a hard comebacker off of Harlem ace pitcher Jackson Heidemann. Heideman recovered the ball and threw home but too late to get the lead runner coming from third base. Heideman's throw home also got by the catcher allowing Cameron Nelson to score another run which was the winning DeLeo was huge for Hononegah in this game. He had three hits, and he drove in a run. He also came on in relief of starting pitcher Parker Danielson to pitch five innings of one-hit ball. He allowed two runs, one earned, and he struck out eight batters. Miller had two hits and an RBI. Heidemann went six innings for Harlem giving up three earned runs on eight hits. Hononegah's record improves to 21-15. Hononegah High School celebrates after 4 students score a perfect on their ACTs
ROCKTON, Ill. (WTVO) — Four Hononegah High School students earned a perfect score on their ACT this year. Andrew Chambers, Brooklyn Davis, Anushree Karunamurthy Premanand and Peter Nelson were the students who scored a 36 on the test. The juniors took the test in May. Hononegah holds off Auburn on a bang-bang play at home plate in NIC-10 softball
ROCKTON, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Hononegah edged Auburn 5-4 Wednesday night in girls NIC-10 softball on a bang-bang play at the plate in the bottom of the seventh the game tied at four and two runners on base, Hononegah's Mal McMaster laid down a bunt. Auburn fielded it and threw to third trying to get the runner Megan Kelly who had made a wide turn there. Kelly then set sail for home sliding in just ahead of the tag at the plate as the umpire called her did a great job battling back from a 4-2 deficit in the top of the seventh. Maylee Baker and Natalee Jasso hit RBI singles to tie it at Kelly had three hits and two stolen bases in the game for Hononegah. Kenzi Haas drove in two Parr had three hits including a homerun for Auburn. Eva Ostergard also had three hits for the Lady the circle, Irelyn O'Brien pitched 5-plus innings for Hononegah allowing four runs and striking out six batters. Boylan takes over sole possession of first place in NIC-10 soccer with a win over Hononegah
LOVES PARK, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — The Boylan Lady Titans pulled away from a first-place tie with Hononegah in NIC-10 girls soccer Tuesday night by defeating Hononegah 5-2. A low scoring first half turned into an offensive second half. Only one goal was scored in the first half. Sophie Moore sent a header toward the Hononegah goal that Kylie Tewell knocked in for a 1-0 Boylan lead. In the second half, the Lady Titans scored a pair of goals only 40 seconds apart by Joscelyn Posada and Ava Galluzzo for a 3-0 lead. Hononegah got on the board on a long shot by Sophia Plourde making it 3-1. Boylan added two more goals and Hononegah one more for the final of 5-2. Boylan improves to 7-0 in NIC-10 play. Hononegah quarterback Dominic Kelly signs with Ripon College
ROCKTON, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Hononegah's quarterback has found a new home to continue his athletic and academic career. Dominic Kelly has signed with Ripon is an NCAA Division III program that competes in the Midwest helped Hononegah to an 8-2 record last fall, and to a share of the NIC-10 championship. He passed for 499 yards and two touchdowns, but it was his quick feet that gave opposing defenses problems. Kelly rushed for 510 yards and nine Ripon though, he'll play wide receiver.
