Lovebirds enjoy Erie Zoo winter hours at Valentine's Day event

The Erie Zoo was open for one last time before their regular season. The zoo held a Valentine's Day-themed weekend called Hoo Do You Love. Last-minute Valentine's Day shoppers look for perfect gift It was part of their winter hours where they open one weekend a month during their off-season The event focused on aviation conservation and zoo lovers were able to learn and do activities with Erie Bird Observatory and Asbury Woods. Remember to keep those Valentine's Day treats away from pets 'It worked out that this weekend is also the great backyard bird count which is part of our saving animals from extinction plan for the North American songbirds,' said Hali Hartley, special events manager of the Erie Zoo. A new Italian-style restaurant has opened in the former 1201 Kitchen location on the corner of 12th and State Streets. A. Francisco's restaurant cut the ribbon and opened their doors to the public Wednesday morning. Erie Zoo to host 'Hoo Do You Love' Valentine's event this weekend Their menu features creative pizza pies, a unique wine selection and other fine Italian dishes. The restaurant is already feeling the love from the public, as they are completely sold out for Valentine's Day reservations. Coming in 'candy' — Local chocolate stores stock up on supplies for Valentine's Day rush Owner Antonio Milone said he's always had a passion for cooking that was inspired by being in the kitchen with his grandmother. 'The Italian food is very light, it's fresh. The dough is made in-house every day. All the plates are shareable,' said Milone. 'There some other developers on 12th Street and above 12th Street area that are doing a lot of great things the next coming years and this space always kind of just missed something being in it.' A. 'Valencrimes' continues at the Blasco Library this week, this time taking listeners back to an old cold case in Erie. 'Valencrimes Week' is an event for crime lovers to come together and listen to true crime stories from authors and researchers. Erie Zoo to host 'Hoo Do You Love' Valentine's event this weekend On Tuesady night a local expert told the story of Mary Holland, an investigator dubbed 'the female Sherlock Holmes' who was called to look into an Erie murder in the early 1900s. He said Holland was the best-known private investigator in America at the time, but even she couldn't solve the murder. Coming in 'candy' — Local chocolate stores stock up on supplies for Valentine's Day rush 'She didn't solve it either. She said during the peak of her career that only one homicide in five was ever solved,' said Gary Wesman, a local researcher. Erie Zoo to host ‘Hoo Do You Love' Valentine's event this weekend

(WJET/WFXP) — 'Owl' bet you didn't see this coming — The Erie Zoo is hosting jam-packed weekend of events to celebrate the holiday of love. The zoo announced Tuesday that this weekend — Saturday, February 15 and Sunday, February 16 — they'll be hosting a special Valentine's themed event as a way to celebrate their 100-year anniversary. Erie VA residents receive valentines for Salute to Veteran Patients Week While the event, appropriately titled 'Hoo Do You Love,' will mainly focus on avian conservation, all of the animals at the zoo will have a chance to celebrate. Atendees can create Valentine's Day-themed enrichment and crafts for the animals, as well as join in on zookeeper's discussions. Coming in 'candy' — Local chocolate stores stock up on supplies for Valentine's Day rush The president and CEO Roo Kojancie explained that the zoo wanted to do something special to celebrate such a large milestone. 'In celebration of our 100-year anniversary, we're opening the gates for winter hours thisValentine's Day weekend to allow the public to come show our animals a little winter love,' said Roo Kojancie, president and CEO of the Erie Zoo. 'As part of our 100 year celebration, we're excited to offer more ways to connect with your Erie Zoo.'
