This 56% reduction makes it £34 cheaper than Amazon's listed price (£143) and a whopping £140.99 less than Shark's Anti Hair Wrap Cordless Vacuum (£249.99). Hoover claims that the HF9 provides the 'perfect balance of suction power and effective run time for the whole house'. This made it the perfect choice for our home, given our little dog's constant shedding necessitates daily vacuuming. The Carpet and Turbo modes are quite noisy, but this is to be expected given the increased suction power and is a small price to pay considering the ability to remove dirt embedded in the carpet. I've come across some customer reviews describing the HF9 as too heavy – I'd characterise it as sturdy. It certainly carries some heft, but this is more than compensated for by its ease of manoeuvrability, reports the Mirror. It sails smoothly over our laminate flooring, and the flexible brush head allows for easy cleaning in various directions, be it around table legs, along skirting boards or into corners. However, those who find lifting heavy items challenging might strain if using it for extended periods. The vacuum's battery can endure for 30 minutes – ample time for a comprehensive clean of our modest three-bedroom house – with the LED display indicating the remaining battery life in minutes to prevent any surprises. I managed to clean the house from top to bottom with plenty of battery to spare and found no missed debris during a quick post-hoover inspection, so it certainly scores points there. Considering myself rather neat and tidy, I was taken aback when the lights revealed all the dust and dog hair that had escaped my old Dyson. This revelation allowed me to revisit and thoroughly clean all the hidden spots, transforming it into a handheld vacuum with the included crevice tool to tackle tricky areas like cabinet sides or stair cracks. I'm comparing this vacuum to our Dyson Cyclone V10, which boasts double the Hoover's runtime, but at £299.99, it's nearly triple the price. Our reliable old Dyson served us well, but we had to retire it when it started scratching the floor, resorting back to a traditional broom. The Hoover, with its rubber wheels, has thankfully allowed me to abandon the broom and save considerable time by quickly running it around the house each day. The freestanding 'Park and Go' feature is another clever addition I didn't realise I needed; it's incredibly convenient to be able to leave the vacuum standing on its own while moving obstacles – like the dog bed or a line of trainers. Ultimately, the Hoover HF9 may not outshine premium competitors like Shark and Dyson, but it's certainly just as effective and therefore the obvious choice considering its significantly lower price. Many of its features seem designed for simplicity – in a positive sense. It's incredibly easy to assemble within seconds, simply slot the three parts together and off you go. Emptying the dustbin is equally uncomplicated, accomplished literally at the push of a button. Given the substantial price difference compared to its main rivals, the vacuum HF9 more than meets the mark for cleaning dust, dirt and – crucially for our household – dog hair. So much so that it raises the question, why spend hundreds on a Shark or Dyson when this £109 vacuum does the job perfectly well?
