Hoover is back with another spring clean deal that's slashed £140 off one of its leading vacuum cleaners, reducing it to more than half price. The Hoover's HF9 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner With Anti Hair Wrap can now be picked up for £109 – down from £249 – using the discount code POWERFUL.
This marks a 56% drop and a £60 saving compared to Amazon's asking price (£169) and Shark's Anti Hair Wrap Cordless Vacuum (£169). Hoover touts its HF9 as the 'ultimate home cleaning appliance', claiming it has 'double the suction power' compared to some rival brands.
The vacuum is designed to handle both carpet and hard floors, with its brush bar capable of adapting to different surfaces with its Hard Floor and Carpet modes. These allow the brush bar to spin slower on delicate surfaces and faster on carpets to remove deeply embedded dirt, while the extra-powerful Turbo Boost setting provides up to 12 minutes of stronger suction.

The vacuum's durable battery can operate for 30 minutes continuously – enough to clean 120sqm – without losing suction and takes 3.5 hours to fully charge. Hoover is taking on Shark's anti hair wrap and Dyson's de-tangling with its own 'Anti-Twist' technology, which automatically removes hair from the brush bar as it cleans, reports The Mirror.
The lightweight vacuum can also be easily converted to a handheld device, allowing easy cleaning of stairs, sofas or car interiors. Other standout features include LED lights in the brush head to illuminate any hard-to-see dirt, the freestanding 'Park and Go' feature and a five-year warranty on purchases made direct from vacuum.

Hoover's latest deal sees its HF9 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner reduced by £140 with the discount code POWERFUL.
This deal is £220.99 cheaper than Dyson's 4.4-star rated V8 Advanced (£329.99) – said to be the 'most powerful V8 ever' – but that model boasts a slightly longer 40-minute run time. However, the Hoover HF9 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner With Anti Hair Wrap has a higher 4.6-star rating from 838 reviews – 773 of which are four or five stars.
One satisfied customer said: "Best vacuum I've ever had. Great suction, better than a Dyson or Shark. I have just bought one for my mother, and my sister received hers today, we all love it."
Another added: "I cannot fault this. The design and quality of material is excellent compared to my Miele which cost twice as much. I especially like its height and anti hair wrap. Plus, it stands up alone between uses and whilst charging. Its suction is brilliant, easily switching between hard floors and carpet and its accessories are quality – really good on the sofas."
"I cannot fault this, the design and quality of material is excellent."

A third buyer said: "Absolutely brilliant Hoover, picks up dog hair and the tiniest bit of fluff. It is reasonably quiet and doesn't scare my dogs like my last vacuum and the price was exceptional." However, at 3.4kg, some users have found the Hoover HF9 too heavy, as this less satisfied customer said: "Looks great, functions as described but too heavy for me to be lifting up stairs."

On the other hand, other customers have praised the vacuum as 'easy to use' and 'efficient', with this five-star review saying: "Love my new Hoover, it's lighter, more powerful and more manoeuvrable than my old one.
"Also has a battery timer and light and stands up on its own. I have been hoovering more often than I used to as it's so easy to carry around the house."

Tech giants' indirect emissions rose 150% in three years as AI expands, UN agency says

GENEVA, June 5 (Reuters) - Indirect carbon emissions from the operations of four of the leading AI-focused tech companies, Amazon (AMZN.O), opens new tab, Microsoft (MSFT.O), opens new tab, Alphabet (GOOGL.O), opens new tab and Meta (META.O), opens new tab, rose on average by 150% from 2020-2023, as they had to use more power for energy-demanding data centres, a United Nations report said on Thursday. The use of artificial intelligence is driving up global indirect emissions because of the vast amounts of energy required to power data centres, the report by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the U.N. agency for digital technologies, said. Indirect emissions include those generated by purchased electricity, steam, heating and cooling consumed by a company. Amazon's operational carbon emissions grew the most at 182% in 2023 compared to three years before, followed by Microsoft at 155%, Meta at 145% and Alphabet at 138%, according to the report. The ITU tracked the greenhouse gas emissions of 200 leading digital companies between 2020 and 2023. Meta, which owns Facebook and WhatsApp, pointed Reuters to its sustainability report that said it is working to reduce emissions, energy and water used to power its data centres. The other companies did not respond immediately to requests for comment. As investment in AI increases, carbon emissions from the top-emitting AI systems are predicted to reach up to 102.6 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2) per year, the report stated. The data centres that are needed for AI development could also put pressure on existing energy infrastructure. "The rapid growth of artificial intelligence is driving a sharp rise in global electricity demand, with electricity use by data centres increasing four times faster than the overall rise in electricity consumption," the report found. It also highlighted that although a growing number of digital companies had set emissions targets, those ambitions had not yet fully translated into actual reductions of emissions.

The companies asked the court, opens new tab on Wednesday to dismiss the case with prejudice, which means it cannot be refiled. State Farm said in a statement on Thursday that the case had been settled under confidential terms. Spokespersons and attorneys for Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday.
